Yes, that's exactly it. Body language does not travel well through the wire. Myself, when speaking with old good friends, I enjoy quite a lot speech that would be valued as extremely offending and vulgar, but it is in fact a kind of appreciation of the friends and intimity with them. However, I am well aware that it does not work so well with others - strangers, most of colleagues, neighbours, my wife, ... so I know I have to differentiate, and of course I know that it would not be appreciated on any online forum too
