Re: Ufc

But they don't care if he gets popped for roids. It's been my theory and it's kind of confirmed from the pre-fight show by The Dana, that Brock Lesnar is a WWE or whatever star and this fight will bring Wrestling fans. The same age demographic as UFC. On the show The Dana about peed himself when he said something to the effect of Think of all the wrestling fans that will tune in to watch this guy!

If he wins, Good for UFC, new fans. If he gets poped for roids, it will be after the fight, fans already exposed. If he gets beat, the new viewers still watched and saw what they believe to be one of the baddest men on the planet get beat and are impressed. It's a win/win fight for The Dana and the UFC money machine.

Re: Ufc

I don't think there'll be a steroid test. I don't think everyone gets tested, and I believe tests might be more prevalent for a title fight ie: Sherk.
And you're right about bringing in a 'sports entertainer' as a marketing ploy. Even if Mir hands Lesnar is ass (which I'd love to see!), the ratings/fees for PPVue alone have to be worth it, even if UFC doesn't retain the new fans over the long haul.

I also liked the original UFC fights, but think that the rules now are a better thing. I don't like seeing a 20 minute clinch, or 2 guys lying on the fence for too long.

Re: Ufc

I think the old fights were funny to watch, and certainly made for good highlight clips but I think now it is more of a true sport with real athletes, there is an occasional bogus fight but I like it allot better than watching some slob like tank abbot swing wildly for 10 seconds then gasp for breath the rest of the time if he didn't get a lucky KO. A few years ago I was living in Louisana for grad school and one night stumbled on an actual fight club-like the movie, it was very similar to old ufc and incredibly entertaining/surreal, basically a bunch of angry rednecks who took a few karate classes trying to re-enact what they saw on tv, one guy even had the karate kid headband.

Re: Ufc

The tests are random for most fights, mandatory for the title fights I believe. I've heard they test on average like 25% of the fighters of the event. That also includes the prelim fights that may not be aired.

Re: Ufc

I just looked at the card for this UFC and it actually is a good card for a change. The following card, Dan Henderson is dropping to 185 to fight Silva. I think there will be a new 185 champ there. Hendo is tough! I'm not sure Sylva can take Hendo's GnP style. That will be a fun one to watch!

Re: Ufc

I agree. Dan Henderson should beat Anderson Silva. As for tonight, Frank Mir should win over Lesnar. Your right about roid strenght, but octagon experience really does count and I think Lesnar is gonna get his ass beat. I can't wait. I'd also like to see Jeremy Horn win tonight.

Re: Ufc

The Horn/Marquardt fight should be a good matchup. I haven't seen either fight in a while.

The thing about Lesnar vs Mir, Lesnar is big and hard to move, and will take a punch. Mir should be safe on his back and if he can get Lesnar on his back I'm not sure Lesnar will work well from there. Standing, I don't know if Mir can hurt Lesnar. He should be quicker than Lesnar, but if Lesnar lands a clean punch...oof..heavy hands. I want Mir to win, but I think Lesnar has the advantage. I know the muscle bound dude loses to the pudgy guy with good technique a lot, but this is not the normal muscle bound guy. An interesting matchup for sure. Another reason to want Lesnar to lose is that dumb penis looking sword tatoo on his chest.

NOG!!! Take a leg home with you!!!

Re: Ufc

Wow! Loved the Silvia loss! And Lesnar impressed me, despite losing to a classic kneelock. I think that in a year, he could be a serious contender. For anyone to walk into the UFC and fight a former world champ takes a serious pair of cojones!

Re: Ufc

Horn pretty much got handled. I didn't think he showed much offence at all. Marquardt was actually pretty impressive. IRC though Horn had a chance on the ground with the go go polata. I think that was the Horn fight. He was like an inch away from getting the foot under Nate's chin.

I thought Lesnar was going to get a pound out win. He showed his power for sure. Mir kept moving and working. I was hoping Mir could scramble for Lesnar's back and get an RNC in. He did say that was his plan, legs and neck. Lesnar just bull rushed him and tried to get a stoppage, but he did not control Mir's upper body. Once he shifted to that ankle when Lesnar was standing, I thought he was going to sweep him. For all the beating Mir took, he kept his head and stuck to his plan. I think Lesnar would have been better off standing and trading for a minute and building up a decent sweat. Mir impressed me as well, that was the best he looked since his return.

Nog can take a beating. Timmmay hurt him once, but Nog kept working his game. Tim wanted no part of Nog on the ground. That sweep was impressive, he used nice technique to roll Sylvia over. I saw him working the arm and he tried to step over the head to lock it, I was standing up at that point! Sylvia slipped out and bang, the Guillotine was on, with an arm in too. It was a good choke, he did not have the arteries, he had the adams apple. I think Nog should have kicked more. There was no fear of being taken down and Sylvia could have countered, but after a few more leg kicks, he would have been backing up rather than moving forward. Who am I to critic the guy that won the fight though!

I thought at first that Tim tapped a little too fast, but the replay showed the forearm sitting on the windpipe... had to be painful as hell!

Monkeyhatfork, sorry, I should have put 'spoiler' as a headline on my post. Hopefully I didn't ruin it for you.
