Think too of cellulose based fuels, essentially the ability to turn wasted fibrous materials into power. If i understand my chem right, the chemicals required to make these fuels are not any harder than shoveling dung or evaporating urine. Hey, its not a glamorous job, but it builds character. Is anyone aware of any studies that compare the potential energy production of an oil producing crop compared to a carb producing one as regards land usage efficiency and environmental impact? Well, it's sometimes called bathtub gin, and sometimes brewing the wrong brew causes people to go blind.
The problem with plant-based fuels is that, in some cases, they are not self-sustaining. That's one of the issues with ethanol made from corn.

There is alot of working being done as regards to Bio fuels but supply is as big an issue at the moment.Hydrogen technology is coming along as well but all these things need to be reliable and safe before mass marketing.
Just to put it into some basic figures the UK market is the largest domestic condensing boiler market in the world some 1.5 million boilers installed every year. A condensing boiler is a boiler which passes it's flue gasses over a heat exchanger to use the latent heat from the gas to heat the water. The lower temperature flue gases then reach a condesnsing point.
