Hello, everyone! I have a historical question for those of you well-informed with all things Freediving.
Who started the very first Freediving Club, and where was it? -- I promise this is not a trick question, but a historical inquiry. Thanks!

Yes, I've been away for awhile.....but life runs in cycles, so sooner or later....back to DeeperBlue! ....So, there isn't anyone out there in the etherspace who doesn't know this tid-bit of history? Hmmm....

I would say there were a few 'clubs' amongst the early sponge divers. Apparently they were a secretive bunch so probably kept to themselves to some degree.
Just did a bit a googling and came up with this article about 'The Bottom Scratchers' club from San Diego - What a cool name! They were probably not the first club but certainly one of the first. SignOnSanDiego.com > Sports -- The Bottom Scratchers Is this just something you are curious about Oceanswimmer or are you doing formal research?

well at some point someone will say it, may as well be me:
it was the phaores of ancient Egypt, which started it, just like everything else it was by the nile bank in what is now known as Cairo and was called the Ramses Freediving club
