Smile Advise on training please

Hello, I've been freediving since summer 2007, and have really gone mental on this sport
Its winter here,and Im currently training in gym and pool.
If anybody have some advice for me to alter some of my training to better my freediving please do so

I train 4 days a week, 2 in gym and 2 in pool. and if the weather alows it. I dive in the weekends.(is winter here)

Monday =gym
Tuesday=pool
Wednsday
Thursday= Pool
Friday= gym

Gym = 20 minutes light jogging,4-5 sets of leg extensions. up to 30 reps, some sets of leg curl and a small portion on upper body work

Pool = 10 laps of underwater monofinning,with 1 minute breathing in between laps (25m)
-Sometimes a few superwised 50m 'rs
and just som diving and recreational swimming under water a 1 minute each.
To get acustomed to my monofin..
Im not doing tables at the moment.. Just thinking about them !!!! (arg at self)

Can somebody give a few tips to alter my regime for some gains ???
If so ,thank you !

Hi Gwaihir,

When you do the 25m and have a one minute rest in between - do you find it quite easy?

If so then I would reduce the rest time untill you find it more tricky (if it's hard enough at the moment then stick with one min).

Mayby start with a one min rest and then reduce it every couple of lengths? (this is in effect a dynamic CO2 table)

You say that you sometimes do supervised 50m. Does that mean that the rest of your pool training is alone?
A buddy to train with would be strongly advised by most on this forum.

If you search on this forum I believe there is quite a lot of info for new freedivers that will prove usefull.

Good luck with your training,

John.

Re: Advise on training please

hey Gwaihir, hesitant to post this cause i'm no expert in training, I'm coming to freediving from a surf/skate backgroung so don't have some of the more formal training background of someone coming from comp swimming, etc. but all just post what Is working for me right now and you can take what you whant from it- also I'm an artist so I have more freetime flexible schedual than most. I train something everyday take rest days when exhausted. Here is my average day.
  • morning- dry static tables, then mini workout-abs, squats, medicine ball, streching. about an hour total.
  • afternoon-pool, 1 1/2 hours of 50m dyn, then 1/2 hour freestyle swimming
  • evening- jogging,uphill sprints, or bmx bike
I've been following this for a few months to get ready for a frredive course I'm doing in a few weeks- If I fail static table in morning I rest from the pool that day but usually make the pool at least 5 days week 1 or two rest days but even on those days I try and do something small and alway static table and stretching.
