First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

Hi freedivers,

This is my first post on deeperBlue.net and i'm happy that i'm part of the community.

Last thursday i did my first dynamic with fins, ( cressi sub gara 3000 ). After a couple of breathholds i did a maximum 65 meters dynamic in a 25 meter pool. Is this good or bad for a first timer?

I've no experience whatsoever with apnea or even diving.

Please give me some feedback if this is a good way to start or if i should quit right now

Tnx,

Dioni

well i've been diving for almost a year now. and havent gotten past 63m so in my book its pretty good

You shuld try to get a course, so u learn about the dangers/safety of breath hold

It's fine. It is what it is. Do you want to improve it? If so, then you're on the right forum.
If you were not being spotted, then it's great that you are alive to ask!

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

it sounds like you are doing very well. I am terrible in pools, the surface is just too close and it's too easy to give up! Weak mind, thats me. Like Erik says, have someone watch you all the way through your swim and at least 30 seconds after you pop up. Good luck

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

Thank you guys..

Today was my second trail and i did max. 60 meters... but with the safety of someone watching over me!!!!

I have another question and i dont want to start a new thread for this little question:

My legs have more than enough power for freediving ( history of high level basketball and serious fitness training) but today, just like the last week, the muscles in front of my ankle hurt like HELL after 50 minutes of freediving.. how can you train those muscles?? or is it normal to have this??

tnx

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

I have those same fins and I managed about 60m, So i would say your are doing pretty well. For record my static is 3:01. You will improve fast. One thing I noticed while pool training with a heart rate monitor is that your heart rate will jump WAY up based on finning technique. I would make my heart rate go from 75BPM to 95BPM by just kicking SLIGHLY harder. It is key to make long, smooth, rythmic kicks. Good luck with your training, and be safe!

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

You will work through the ankle pain. Its partly untrained muscles and partly stretching ligaments etc that are not used to the force the fins put on your ankles. Just keep practicing, stop when it hurts and start again the next day. It will be ok. Exception: Some people's ankles won't tolerate cressi's flat blades. They do much better with an angled blade, replaceable foot pocket like an Omer or similar. Assuming your Cressi's are the LDs, they should be no problem.

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

i guess you talking about the similar pain, that apear when skating on ice
i also had this pain...sometimes still have...it-s because my blades are stiff and heavy
so! yes it-s normal...

Re: First dynamic... is it good or bad ?

Hi,

I'm fairly new to freediving/spearfishing, I have been going for a swim in the 50m pool at work atleast once a week and trying dynamics. About a week or 2 before easter I manged to do 70m twice. I was real happy with my effort but then I got sick over easter and I haven't been able to do more than 50m since then. I have fully recovered from the head cold but just cant seem to touch the wall and come back. The weird thing is before I get in the pool and even when I'm breathing up I feel really good like I could do 75m but can't seem to? Any help?

Jono
