problem in the waters of Indiana

hey every body, im new to the spearfishing world and ive already got a problem. i live in southern indiana, lots of lakes, streams, whatever to go fishing in. ive hand made my first polespear out of a piece of PVC pipe (1/2'') a wire hanger, and some medical ruber strapping. surprisingly as crappy as it looks it performs ok. thats not the problem, the problem is vis. in any of the bodies of water around hear once you get past 4ft the visability drops to about 2 ft. this causes me to run into things like old logs and very thick weed beds. not to mention when i actually find a fish im almost on top of it before i or it relizes it. im asking for tips on hunting in EXTREMLY murky water, any sugestions would help, and mabe il get my first fish.

Do aspetto (that is lying in waiting ambush on the bottom ) in areas where fish will trafel through and shoot up to the surface using the light to your advantage. The fish will appear as darker shapes in the water with the light coming from above them. This is a time consuming method of hunting but if theres fish it will work.
Or just wait for the water to clear
