newbie

Hey guys I just bought a riffe reel for my riffe gun. Is the best way to mount this to simply drill stainless wood screws directly into the barrel at a good location?

Re: newbie

I think it best to tap a itsy bitsy guide hole first on each center, rather than attempting to screw direct.

Re: newbie

So tap the small guide holes then use the stainless wood screws to mount it?

Should you drill holes all the way through and bolt it on? Or is this unecessary?

Re: newbie

You can get stainless steel threaded inserts that will do an even better job, I think you can pick them up at most boating shops but ask Bill McIntyre about them he has more info than me

Those are Bills pictures BTW

Re: newbie

Then the reel could be removed when not needed? that is a great idea as I would like to be able to take it off occasionally. One other question, what is better a reel or float system? I have been spearfishing for 20+ years but mostly on scuba on wrecks. This weekend is my first "blue water hunting trip" free diving off the shelf. I have two guns, a midhandle No Ka Oi 60 inch shaft, and a 60" biller lmtd paudak. I have one riffe reel, Was thinking putting the reel on one gun and a line system on the other..??? or reel both?

Re: newbie

Yes the reel can quickly and safely be removed with a screwdriver.

I would suggest that a float with a break away system would be safer for a first time blue water hunt, just in case you get lucky
