Beginer here

Hello guys

My question is about aiming in spear fishing. Is there any way to aim accurate like hunting birds? If there is a way under water any tips about it ?

The reason behind this question because i shoot two fishes and my spear went through the fish only like 1 inch which was not enough to hold it in the fish and take it out the Sea.

appreciate you answers

Re: Beginer here

If the spear is not going through, then it's not the aim. You want the spear towards the head and not in the meat of the fish. But penetration is in the gun. Your hitting the fish, so your aim seems fine. Some info on your gun would help.

In general, make sure the bands are not worn out or to long. What range are you shooting the fish? Is your shooting line stopping the travel and not allowing the spear to go all the way through?

Re: Beginer here

Saleh,
get an empty water bottle and fill it with sand, take it in the sea and place on the sandy bottom, go down repeatedly and aim and fire...now go back a bit and try again..
should give you an idea on both aim and penetration/range if your gun...
what gun are you using by the way?

Re: Beginer here

hey Thanks both for the advice Actually i have got Cressi Sub 75 cm comanche when i bought and still now i dunno whats good and whats bad in guns things will come step by step. it has one rubber i think pressure is fine but one thing i realised is that the spear aint much sharp when u get the gun brand new.

Not many types of spearguns are available at UAE there are two main stores for diving equipments one having Mares products only the other one having Beuchat products. So we do not have variety of choises otherwise i will buy it through internet.

More things like i couldnot get so far to buy the reel mechanism and my gun having on rubber only and when i asked if i want to add one more rubber they said no they do not have additional parts for that.

Anyway Appreciate your answers guys and would be happy hearing more about it.

Re: Beginer here

The shaft should have 2 notches to lock the wishbone into. If so, can you get the band to the second one? You can add another band, but you would have to order the rubber and stuff to make your own.

Only going by a picture, it looks like the one band *should* be good. Factors on penetration are: range and strength of the bands. You should be loading the gun with the butt in your chest and it should be somewhat difficult to get the wishbone into the notch in the shaft.

Re: Beginer here

not many availabale in UAE??? youre not looking my friend, try the following people:
Al Sayyad, AL Sammak, Zane in UAE (DB name: SpeerO)..you have rob allen, omer, cressi, beuchat , riffe etc... all around you...
the comanche 75 is a great gun, i have one too, for starting spearfishing i think its one of the best guns..with time you might find the need to move up to a 100 in UAE...like you said, with time/practice you will understand whats good and whats bad..dont worry about reels too much..do a search here on them, i use a float system rather then a reel personally..but that depends on a lot of things as you will see..
best regards..

Re: Beginer here

You have to be careful going with a double band setup. You don't want to over-power the gun, it can cause wear to the trigger. Also too much power makes the gun hard to handle. You could make your own band and lace it through the muzzle on your gun.

If there are better shops for spearfishing, I would go and find the one your most comfortable with and see what they can do to help you. You did not buy the gun from them, so they may not be too eager to help until you start buying stuff from them.

Re: Beginer here

Welcome Salethefish! Marwan & IlDiver are real good sources and value their advice. I shoot an older carbine style guns. One with single band, the other with double band. I've had to replace the bands several times oover the decades due to dry rot (I know I've ignored you my beauties but now we're spending quality time ). Anyway...I COULD make my own bands because I'm quite handy but I'd rather dedicate TIME to other things. So I buy mine pre-made and the price is very reasonable. Just get your measurements & go to local shop, on-line store, or e-bay to get them. Make sure your tip is sharp. A large bastard file stroked toward the pointy end will suffice. I stay away from grinders because if you get the tip too hot it will take the temper out of the steel and it's way to easy to get out of round. As sharpening stroke 3 times with the file & turn 1/8 turn...repeat (no comments from Pastor). Also use silicon spray in the trigger release to insure smooth release.

Best regards & luck hunting, send & trade recipes as you get them.

Re: Beginer here

Thanks for the advice mate

Well i changed my mind about adding any rubbers or making the gun more strong LOLz Next month i am planning to go for bigger size gun with double band...

Again i need to choose between woden undersee Gun and Beauchat Gun these are most available here.

Marwan thanks for the adress you gave for diving shops but alsayyad is no more worthy(The one i visited is in dubai near to dubai muncipality) They said they no more dealing with diving stuff all i found were two beauchat guns.

I visited baracuda shop and they have undersee woden guns was first time i am seeing woden guns Looking good...

am getting much info and support from all of you guys... Thanks a lot
