C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

Hello there,

I´m having a REAL hard time in deciding wich ones to buy.
Although i´ve tried the Nemo´s (Nº2), i have seen very good reviews about the Wahoo... (and they look nice).
Does anyone have experienced the Wahoos yet?

OR... i could consider buying a carbone fin (soft), but i have never tried ones before and i don´t want to spend a lot of money... and break the fins one week later!!! How long can i expect them to last in spearfishing? Because no mater how carefull i am, they will eventualy "touch" a rock in a harder way.

Can somebody please help?

Thanking you in advance,
Filipe Messias.

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

Have you consider Blades from Carbontek! they have a mix blade 70% Carbon 30% glass. It's called the CT Carbon GLASS, Also they have 2 100% Carbon blades. Here in the US there's one that is called CT Glass 60% glass 40% carbon.

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

Ten of fifteen years ago there was only one choice superior to all the others: C4.
Nowadays there are so many good fins on the market that it's really hard to pick.
I dont know Nemo's or Carbontek, but you can't go wrong with C4: just choose the right one depending on your type of diving. As for carbon, don't worry: their allieged fragility is just a legend. Not true.
Now
What's your average depth? How is the bottom where you hunt (rocky? Kelpy?). How much do you weigh? How strong and trained are your legs?

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

Hello again,

first of all, thank you for your fast reply to my request.
I usually dive between 15 to 25mt when spearfishing or just training in my regular hunting areas.
Our waters are very "dirty", and we rarely have more than 10mt visibility. Lots of rock (therefore my fears about carbon and the "myth" arround them). I have been diving with Cressi fins for many, many years. Do you think i will need to make even more effort than i already do now? (Gara 3000).
I Weight 70Kg, with relatively weak legs, but i can keep the same stroke for a really long time.

Thank you,
Filipe Messias.

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

C4 Mustang 30.
I used to dive with the Falcon 30 for the same type of diving when my weight was 75 kg, and they were great (as well as the Omer Rekords, wich are a very little bit softer)
Now if you like the Wahoos, get the Mustang 30: same stiffness grade of the Falcon 30, design of the Wahoo but with a carbon blade, lighter than the polyammide/glassfiber black Wahoo, which is said to have the same performance and the same "snap" of Mustangs but with a heavier blade.
Of course the difference is also in the price:
black Wahoo: 140 euro
Mustang 30: 240 euro.
up to you.

How much surface swiming is required? Fin choices are really personal these days, but the dive condicions you gave are a really good fit for the medium hybrid (special fins), but they come with a big price tag. I current have two pais of hybrid fins (one medium one hard), definitly avoid the hard, your body built is similar to mine and the hard is too hard, I use that hard fins just for vertical dives.

I've also try the C4/30 flaps, they are great fins, but I am not sure how resistant they would be for the rocky bottom, the C4 are very smooth for vertical dives but the medium hybrid is a little better for surface swiming, but still the C4 are great, but both would come with big price tags.

I have no input about the captain nemo, but I see a lot of people using them, and one advantage of it is the fact that you could use picasso foot pocket ( this last one in my opinion) is very good, again fits my kicking and my diving style, but the trick here will be finding a good pair of fins that will not break your budget, but sometimes the more expensive option can became the cheapest one, since you only by them once (that often happens to me).

I am personally shopping for a pair to replace my medium hybrids (I've left them in Brazil after they were damage by the airline), I know I would be happy with another pair of hybrids for Alaska but at this point I just can't justify the cost, since they would be for Alaska and I would be using them 12 time per year !

Marwan started a very good thread about fins, there is a lot of input from many divers.

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

The main point in my opinion is: why change? You could stick with the Cressi Gara 3000 since you said you've been using them for years and you did not complain....
after all the Cressi are made in Italy so no problem for me if you buy a new pair of those.
Whatever you get, it must be made in Italy if you want to see me smile again and again and again

Re: C4 Wahoo Vs Captain Nemo

did anybody have some experience with scl fins? they are made in Italy (spaghetti you?)
the production of them pretended to experience of professional Italian spear hunters?

and while we're at it which hardness of (XXone Anax or something similar) fins you would recommend for somebody with 190 cm and about 100 kg (good condition because playing soccers sins lot of years)?

Because i used to dive only on week-ends! Now, besides diving every sigle week-end, i´m also having pool trainings twice a week...
My legs are killing me, when i ask for a little more than the cressi´s can give me. What I really wanted was more response...with the same effort.

My "heart" goes for the carbon blades... but then the "reason" tells me that those beauties will crash on the first rock!
Still in doubt...

By the way... what about the old C4 VTR? Can they handle the rockies better?
Thank you very much for your opinions!
I will check out that thread about fins.

Hey spaghetti! I know that this question has been asked already & believed me I searched for it. Still I can't find an answer to it.

How are the effesub X2 Carbon Fins? I mean every single time I look at them, there is something about that design that makes me literally drool.

Also very little to none on-line shops carry them {what a shame...}
