Foot pockets outline

It seems to me that a thread per day is created about foot pockets.
Many new free divers are coming for advice about foot pockets.
Many do not have nearby diving shop that stocks free diving pockets.
Those who do have such shop in their vicinity are probably disappointed with the choice of foot pockets.
So we all (eventually) just buy foot pockets in hope it won’t be too bad.

Perhaps there is a way to reduce number of bad choices.
The simplest way is to compare foot pocket top view outline with your foot outline.
It is not the ideal way, but perhaps it is a notch better than “wide-narrow” method of choice. It also won’t resolve any problems with pocket depth.

You can then print out chosen pocket outline (scaled properly) and compare it to your foot outline. In most cases you’ll probably be able to tell at a first glance what is not for you.

These are photos of Cressi Gara 40/41 and my foot.

Only as an example - you can guess where my problem is with these pockets (I use them only for training nowadays, on bare foot). Heel fits perfectly well, but the bone at the widest part of the foot sticks out. That is exactly the place where it starts hurting after an hour or two.

Now, if only fraction of people on this forum post top view photo/scan of their foot pocket in this thread, it would be sufficient to cover most popular range of pockets and sizes.

If the idea generates interest, I’ll tell you how to get outline of your foot pocket.

Re: Foot pockets outline

Well, as I already mentioned in another thread, the top scan won't really tell you whether the foot-pocket fits better or not. Both the feet and the foot-pockets are not two but three dimensional, and besides that you will get wildly different footprints of the pocket depending on how much it is pressed vertically. The freely taken scan may look completely unfit, but if the pocket is either higher or more elastic in certain parts it may fit much better than one that has a more matching footprint. On my mind you do much better going to the closest local store keeping a bigger choice of fins and trying them there. Or attending a meeting or a competition where you can try fins of other freedivers.
