I'm no expert but just over the $100 mark there's a good selection of fins that will all perform pretty similarly so a nice fitting footpocket is paramount in your buying decision. From many peoples experience the general guidelines are Cressi fins a better suited to people with narrower feet and Omer are better for wider feet but I have no idea about the rest though! I mainly spearfish so have softer fins that are more comfortable for long surface swims but there must be a few freedivers here than can give you helpful advice, come on guys!

Well there are the fins I have called Omer Ice Fins which are probably the most popular and cool looking spearfishing fins ever but are over US$200, then there's Omer Millenium Runners which are the same exact design as the ice fins but a bit stiffer and of a solid black plastic appearance instead of the ice fins transparent look, you can find these at a tad over $100 too. Other popular spearing fins I know of are Picasso Black Teams which are about the same price as the runners and are very durable against rough treatment and then the Cressi Gara 3000 L.D which is a softer version of the popular Gara 3000 at around the same price as the others. The Ice and Gara 3000 L.D are especially good for long suface swimming being softer they won't hurt your legs as much so what kind of swimming you plan on doing will be another important governing factor to deciding what fin to get e.g diving from a boat or long suface expeditions. Also to note; the Gara's don't have interchangeable foot pockets so there won't be a chance to upgrade the blades in the future whereas if you for example get the Omer runners now you could later purchase some Ice blades further down the track to use with the original footpockets.
Here's an online shop to get you started: just check the freediving fins box and submit button on the right side. Fins | Scuba Fins, Snorkeling Fins, Swim Fins at LeisurePro.com That's about it, Cheers! Last edited by Britney Spearz; April 27th, 2008 at 09:53. |

Check Ebay as well after you have done your homework. I found a second hand pair of picasso black team fins for just under US$100. So don't rule out second hand equipment especially if you're new to the sport and you don't want to fork out silly amounts of money.
