Back in the water, what a good feeling. Jon Whopperhead and I headed out in Whopperhead's boat Saturday morning. Our goal was to get some line dives in. The water had a good chop to it, so we found a protected area to park and get our wetsuits on. We hopped in the water in an area that was only 7 feet deep. There were no fish in the area or anything. So we piled back in the boat and moved out to the point near by.

We got back in the water and setup a line in about 47' of water....

FIT and Spearfishing, what a trip..... PART 1

Posted April 19th, 2008 at 05:37 by ILDiver
Safety is always at the top of my list with diving in general. When I started "freediving" I knew I had to learn the right way. I really consider most of what I do in fresh water to be snorkeling, since I'm rarely below 10' and the dangers were minimal. But I wanted to go deeper.

Many years ago I saw a program on TV. This guy wants to set a world record freediving on this sled contraption. He needed safety divers, so he went to a scuba club, but they did not jump at the...

FIT and Spearfishing, what a trip..... PART 2

Posted April 19th, 2008 at 05:37 by ILDiver
Day two we went straight to the pool. First thing we did was a good warm-up in the deep end. Then we moved over to a shallow section to do more statics. We did a few easy holds as the day before, but built up a little faster this time. My third hold felt great, but I wanted to save myself for my final hold. I think I should have kept going on that attempt, in hind sight I felt better on that attempt than the following. So the fourth hold I get a nice long breath up, get relaxed and settle in to...

This was the longest trip to and from a Wisconsin spearo trip I've ever had! Wreck, thanks a ton for picking me up, the bed to sleep in and taking me back to O'Hare.

I'm not sure how long I got to sleep, but that doesn't matter, I can sleep in tomorrow. Wreck was in a little shock to start the day, maybe that brain freeze lead to later.....events. The temp was not too bad really. It does make other dives seem so much easier!

Whopperhead asked if we had a lighter...

From the beginning....

I've decided to sort of "document my adventures". So the first thing I have to do is go back a few days....er...years.

For a little background, I started scuba diving while I was in the Air Force in 1993. I moved around a bit and got away from diving. In 2002 I decided to get back into diving, so I took an "advanced" class. It served the purpose, it got me diving again. I actually decided to do Rescue, then Divemaster. I changed dive shops I was dealing with...
