Where to get a nice freediving float/buoy/line etc? Well....in the toy shop!
We get :
1 Pool School deluxe baby float ( 1,50 euro at my discount toyshop) - 2 air pockets and Max 15 kg carry!
1 rope (start at 20 meter, since we are at builder level 1)
1 weight from an old dumbbell (1,5 to 2 kg)
1 small plank
some hooks, screws, a carabiner or alike(tie-wrap is also possible), tape and finally: some time.
The float:

Take or build a small plank that will fit between the straps, and drill a hole for the rope in the middle.
Some hooks to wind the rope, and at the same time keep the plank stable, and one hook to glide the rope through:
The top:

At the end of the rope the carabiner or tie-wrap, to fix the weight:

Push the seating part up, slide the plank in et voilla:

Improvements:
-Placing a signal flag
-More buoyancy?
-A dry box
Will it work? Sure, just don't fim down or up. These types of floats will be built in the next cheap-ass episodes.
Costs: all most zero
Time: about 30 minutes
Fun: Priceless!

Hmm I don't know looks like board could slip out if wave hits it. or could wear thru cheap plastic blow up. I have plans to build one over this summer for my RI trip but since I got all sorts of time I am aiming for a luxury version. You know compact so I can ship it yet cool enough to cause envy.

Hi slimsteve,
Thanks for your comment. It's actually quite stable, because the hooks fall over the top level air-chamber. However, float 2 I'll be posting in a short while is the improved version of this one, with a lot of added stability features. After that floats will be shown based on small rubber boats.....
