almost anything shiny will attract fish even a bunch of spoons tied together as long as they get sunlight and sparkle they will work. Depth depends on what your hunting, bottom mid or top feeding fish. As long as the flasher gets light it will bring in the curious fishies. Although i heard hawaii doesnt have stupid fish..... or so i have been told.

what i do (as a last resort) cause i love the hunt (and who am i kidding chum and great whites dont go together all that well) is take my crayfish bait bag (little netted bag with drawstring), fill that with sardines and some lead, attach that to your float, and watch the fishies come forth. Though i prefer to hunt without flashers and baitbags. I only use those in really bad viz, on the atlantic side where there arent too many GW patrolling around.

ive never tried the bag i usualy have a mate on the boat cut the bait and he maintains a constant stream of chum. Alot of the time sharks show up but sometimes they dont and those are good times. I love the hunt too and if i didnt need chum i wouldnt use it thankfully we dont have too many Great Whites like you guys
