Hey Walker, would take you up on that but Im pretty far to the south of you. I Imagine Bill Mac and some of the other dana point guys might be happy to go with you though. BTW, looked at your website, looks like you can probably handle yourself OK in the water

so, any takers?
My boat is a 21 foot, Trophy Pro and I am looking for someone to spear with. I am experenced, if that is an issue. On a smooth day we can get to San Clemente in about 2 hours and still have plenty if fuel to pick and choose out spots. Back of Catalina is an easy reach in a short time from the Harbor mouth. Just incase there was any question.. I am a freeediving spero "no bubbles" thanks |

Hi Walker,
What days are you available? I live in Lakewood, that's not too far north of you and starting next Friday am off all summer until Sept 7th. I'm not experienced but would like to become so. You all right with a polespear beginner? Check out Roy_Nexus, too, he's in the same situation. If we're up to making dates, how about next Saturday?

I am in San Diego (Del Mar) and love spearfishing. I don't have much exp in open water dives, but have always been on the ocean. I have owned a similiar boat as well as working on the sportboat Electra in Oceanside as a deck hand.

What's the spearfishing like in San Clemente, freediving? Just out of curiosity, why do you go to a site 2 hours from your boat dock, is there no good spearfishing around Dana Point? Good luck on your diving, I hope to meet up with some spearos around Monterey and Morro Bay, later zeN

For the benefit of people from out of town, I want to make sure we understand that there is a difference between San Clemente, the city on the coast in which I live, and San Clemente Island, which is 51 nautical miles offshore from Dana Point Harbor.
As to why someone would make the long run to the islands rather than stay along the coast, its simple- visibility. Last year about this time we were having unusually good vis along the coast and I was having some of my best spearfishing ever just a few miles from the harbor. This year we have had poor visibility in general, and very poor vis for the last month or so because of red tide. Three days ago I could see the bottom from the surface in 55 feet of water at the island and we speared these fish. I would not have been able to see my hand in front of my face off Dana Point or San Clemente.

free-pole,
I hope that this doesn't offend you because its truly meant as helpful advice. I had such a hard time reading your post that I gave up. I know I'm an old fart, but I think I'm not alone in finding it easier to read stuff that uses normal rules of capitalization and punctuation, and uses full words such as "you" rather than "u." And I do know that you said that you are young, but my wife just retired from teaching high school AP US History, so I do know that its possible for young folks to write very well when they want to. And finally, if you think that only old farts give a shit about the small stuff like being able to read a post, consider that old farts are more likely to have boats. But of course its entirely up to you how you write. Again, I'm just trying to give you some friendly advice.
