Re: newport beach, ca area

yep thats exactly what i saw.. i was in the kelp beds mostly.. got a couple of nice calico, perch.. missed some REALLY nice sized fish. not sure what they were.. some looked like bass would, with stripes on them.. probably 2-3lbs.. came up right on top of this other guy that reminded me of a ling cod or something.. he was probably more like 8-10lbs.. thought it was a sandshark, thats about how big he was.. had by spearhead pointed at the top of his head when i figured out he was a shootable fish.. right when i was about to shoot he dart away ;( lol

saw a couple leopards.. was being checked out by a sand shark or two (made me a little nervous having some fish on the stringer lol)

ran into a couple of corbina sized fish also, but not sure if thats what they were.. all in all its a very nice spot.

itll be nice to go sometime to get a proper tour of the best spots in there and which fish to go for and which are more of a waste of time.. cause towards the end i stopped going for calicos and perch lol..

Re: newport beach, ca area

yeah man ill be here and around.. i know, i thought if i did end up snagging one in the perfect spot behind its gills it would have been a wild ride.. i would have had to pin it and grab it with my free hand and stab it lol.

i know with how many close shots i got off today with the larger fish that im not used to, that sooner or later im gonna nail one.

Re: newport beach, ca area

ok sounds like a plan dude. im gonna head down to inspiration again tomorrow at around 1-2pm or so... and ill be with my buddy i usually go with, so we will have tons of fun when you get there.. we usually stay in the water til around 6-7pm so dont worry about rushing after work.. we should still be lost in kelp and rocks lol.

ill just call you while youre at work tomorrow and leave a message with the details of when we are going, where we should be off inspiration, and whatever else i might need to fill you in on. other than that, lets get some REAL fish tomorrow.

cant wait!

kanakafari where the hell are you bruddah?! choking bomb sets brah? lol.. you better come out soon too. and beamjoel and colt45.. we should have a small hunting group by the end of the month.

Re: newport beach, ca area

aesthetic,

well I am not sure what your sch. is like for this week but I am jammed up with work mon - fri , but might be able to get in an evening session later in the week. Kanak and myself hit Vincente Fishing acess in PV and had a good time this past Sat. Some SheepsHead and some Bass were shot. It was a nice spot with lots of kelp. There was also a nice sand channel that could hold some Halibut, we didnt see any but like to think Positive! The bottom is also covered in very large boulders. Viz was nice too. I think were gona dive again this sat if your up for it. Not sure on the place though. I think Kanak went and dove Cresent Bay Yesterday, not sure how it was though.

good luck

Joel

Re: newport beach, ca area

supa,

Just keep on this forum because it seems as though we have quite a Southern Calfornina click starting. I might be free later this week in the evenings but for sure I will be going out Sat and hopefully a couple other of the others here can join along.

Good luck

joel
