Orange County Area Diving Conditions

I'm looking to get back in the water pretty soon (last freedive was in Laguna in August '07). Unfortunately it looks like its gonna rain for a few days, so I imagine the viz is shot this weekend.

Has anyone been in lately? Any areas better than others for hunting at this point?

- Dave

Re: Orange County Area Diving Conditions

Hey Dave, sorry for the late reply. It looks like conditions are pretty miserable at the moment all up and down the coast, though it might clear up soon? Any news in your part of the state?

Re: Orange County Area Diving Conditions

I was out in my boat off South Orange County once last week and again yesterday. The water temp was 57 and the vis was pretty poor. We didn't see or hear any white sea bass, but a friend did see a big school at the same spot a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Orange County Area Diving Conditions

as of today the swell is keeping things down to limited vis. Hit palos verde this morning with hopes of getting away from the poor vis but no luck. With the winter swells the kelp has taken a beating too. hopefully it will quite down some.

good luck

The kelp down here is the best I've ever seen it. There are kelp beds where there were never kelp beds before. I hardly know where to jump in.

Re: Orange County Area Diving Conditions

Bill,

If the swell stays down I will be heading down there this weekend. I will be taking out my paddle board to cut down on my surface swim time. I wanted to pick your brain on a spot I have in mind that I can reach from shore. I will send it to you in a PM though.

Thanks

Joel
