Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

hello everyone,

here are some maps and links i found online that generally show the areas that have been proposed for the upcoming trip.

i have fished the broughton archipelago and also farther north (hakai pass) with my dad on his boat. it is a stunning area rich with marine life (for those never having been up there).

the last time i was up we feasted on goose-neck barnacles (not to mention some nice sized coho), which are absolutely delicious.

also alert bay is a very cool community with a strong and vibrant first nations population from the kwakwaka’wakw. makes for a interesting place to visit if you have time.

cheers,
sean

ps. hopefully it is ok to cut and paste the jpegs into my message....

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

The part of Ontario I go to has no concrete and no yuppies. We drive to Annikkoken and fly into a lake where there is no one but two grouchy, middle-aged white guys (Jim and I) doing nothing but catch, release, and cook fish for a week. Yum!

Then, on the way back, we'll stop and visit my contractor friend who just bought a farm full of pheasant and whitetail in S. Dakota with the intent of coming back again in October with 12 ga's aforethought. (Boom, you sorry, over-dressed chicken, you!)

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

lots of information for the curious in the thread for last years trip (link in post #1 of this thread). I would like to do a day trip to God's Pocket too, have found a place in Port hardy that rents boats for the day:

http://www.hardybayfishing.com/

the Pheasent hunting sounds good Walter! keep meaning to try some of that in the south-east of this province.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

Chris,

Your post made me laugh out loud, you chronicler of Americana, you!

Any dates are fine for me. I'll definitely be organizing something before or after for those who want to do some camera "shooting" or exploring. Sea kayaking and diving anyone? I know you spearos get impatient when you can't shoot anything but greenling. But you just might see a mermaid....

Any interest?

Pete

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

It's 99% going to be July for me guys. Indo family coming to visit and I have to combine my westcoast adventure with showing them that part of the world.
Discuss....

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

Thanks Pete; I had to stop myself...

Early July is a wonderful time not to be in Traverse City but it is also a terrible time to travel here in sub-Canadia; what with the Boston Tea-party and the early unpleasantness with the Brits. I'm sure there will be various alerts in addition peaking air-fares, congested airports etc. etc. I'll get there if I must, but I expect sympathy dammit.

I actually own a MalibuII sit on Kayak. I'm patient with kayaking under two circumstances; one - it should involve getting underwater at some point and or b- if there are huge waves to surf on. Otherwise it's silly and a little perverse being that close to the water but not under it.
I won't spear greenling; they remind me of an old girlfriend...

I think it's their habit of reclining suggestively on rocks. Also their eyelashes.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

People, dont base stuff on my schdule yet- I think I can swing 1 week for whenever the group wants to meet, then take my family in late July.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round Two!

Ah, do not bang your forehead too much, Fondueset--

The time of travel is perfect from the midwest of the U.S. to BC.

The photos from last year are utterly dazzling...

It is astonishing to consider such a trip.

hey there batray,

you were the very first person at deeperblue to welcome me, so you simply have to go this year; seeing how deeperblue was a significant source of inspiration for me to actually buy gear so i could possibly take a trip just like the one i read aobut in last year's thread.

i am of the mindset that even more divers than last year heading up to telegraph cove would be most excellent.

so come on people, all you have to do is read about last year's trip, check out some of the beautiful pictures, and you will be hooked.

i haven't even recieved my wetsuit from elios and i can't wait (two more weeks to go).

cheers,
sean
