Hi, im gonna be in costa rica for about a week or two in june for a surf trip and i figured i might spearfish some too. Does anyone have any information on some reef fishing near la playa coco? Also is there any specific way you have to ship spearguns, i usually just put them in my board bag but i wasnt sure if thats ok for out of country stuff. Im sure if you have any information it would definately help me a lot.

You have to hire a small boat to get to the good places.
There should be diveshops in Playas del Coco now who can arrange that - hell I freedove there in 1998, was good with varying visibility. I recommend you go out with dorado(mahi mahi) fishermen overnight - might come across something interesting and BIG! ñ- mahi mahi up to five 1/2 feet, yellowfin tuna, billfish perhaps good hunting! peter, www.juprowa.com/kittel

Would love to here follow up trip report! We are planning a trip for 3rd week of March 2008. Or just call or E-mail me and we can shoot the breeze. BTW I can help with trips to SC / NC if your interested. We have the 20# plus Hogfish.
