Re: South Devon Report 2008

Happy new year Spiderman.

I never got in after christmas. Went down on Boxing day to get in and pulled a muscle in my back HURT LIKE BLOODY HELL!!! so been dry since

I think it will be a while until this crappy weather goes away . the westly is only lasting till tuesday next week then they reckon the easterly is coming back. which gives us plenty of time to scour the internet and drool over new gear

Ive got my eye on a housing for my sony handycam. they say its only good for 5m but people have got 7m from it. I dabbled in a bit underwater video in 2007 but the camera I bought was very limiting in video quality. so hopfully this will keep me entertained for a while.

Re: South Devon Report 2008

I think you must be tougher or better insulated than me

I'm Ok into November and beyond if I keep diving regularly but Jan and Feb are a bit much for a skinny one like me even after all the Christmas food

Well done that man!

I think I'm stuck on land for a while. Actually I'm spending all time off at the moment fitting a new kitchen which should earn me mega dive time credit in time for the spring.

Re: South Devon Report 2008

its looking nice today, I'm off down to brixham looking for scollops. I saw some bubblers there the other day, they said the viz was 5 meters with plenty of crabs and scollops about. This will be my first winter dive, Brrrrrr!!

Re: South Devon Report 2008

Ahhh blissful!
I was running late so didn't get as far as Brixham. I scrambled down the hill and dived off the point at hopes nose. I got there at about 4pm and by the time I arrived the sun had dropped down to the west so wasn't hitting the patch I normally dive from. There was also a bit of wind coming in and I wondered If i was doing the right thing but went for it anyway. All I can say is the money I spent on my open cell was worth every penny! They are amazing! Not even the slightest bit cold getting in (apart from 5 minutes of numb face) and then I had the most lovely dive. The water was the clearest I have seen it there and I wasn't the slightest bit cold. I did'nt take the gun as I did'nt excepct to see any fish and I didn't but filled my catch bag with lovely tasty morsels none the less. After a few months off over the winter it was great to see the ocean bed again! As I bobbed up and down in the water looking at the bay shining in the evening sun I thought to myself... this is the best place in the world.....and I love this sport!!
I dived for a about an hour but wanted to be out and dry before it got dark... I dried off had a hot cup of tea, took a few snaps and looked out over the sea feeling properly blissed out....then nearly killed myself carrying all my wet gear back up to the top! Christ, its hell of a pull up there isn't it!!
So yes, a most excellent first dive of the year, lets hope the weather stays like this for spring!
So if anybody is wondering weather to take the plunge so early this year my advice is GO FOR IT!!!!
