Single band or double? And more?

Hello fellow Spearos,
I am going to make my own gun and have a lot questions that need answering.
I have an AB Biller 24 that I have been using for rockfish and lingcode under 20lbs. I see bigger lings but don't shoot them because they seem to be wormy much of the time. The Biller is to small to shoot at any thing more than than a couple feet away and then I work to the side and shoot them just behind or through the gill plate. I need a darn neer perfect senario to feel good about letting the shaft fly on anything in the 8-20lb range.

So what I would love to have is a gun with more power but as small as I dare go. I hunt in low vis and tight areas of rocks and holes so I wont really be shooting further than 10 feet or so and then it would be at rockfish in open water.

With what I want to do with the gun:
1) I need to know the best combo for shaft lenght, dia., and
2)band size or sizes if I end up needing two? I would like to get by with one for quicker reloding in schools of rockfish, but if I am sacrificing to much power with one I don't want to do it.
3)I like the Idea of a mid handle as well but am having trouble figuring out what trigger mech I need for that as it looks to me that the shaft passes past the mech further back the barrel? Can I still use a closed track?

I have not built a gun yet and am stoked to do so. I also have been reading posts for the last two or three days on the subject and can't find exactaly what I am needing as far as answers go. If I was building a blue water gun I would have plenty of info.

Sorry if this is a post that is getting old but I need HELP.

Oh, and by the way the fish you guys are taking are very impressive, it has been a blast browsing through the site.

Re: Single band or double? And more?

Two suggestions - well three:

First I think a 75cm euro gun would do everything you want. Something like the new Omer Cayman.
I have a Riffe MT0. If you like mid-handle it's a pretty sweet little gun - though it won't float. Mine is rigged light with a 1/4x 34 shaft and two bands but you can put any combo on it. It's only 32 inches long without the shaft. 10 feet from the muzzle is not problem.
Last is a pneumatic - a cyrano 850 would do you just fine in those conditions.

Re: Single band or double? And more?

Thank you for the reply, but I want to make a gun. Not because I can't find a gun that will work for what I want.
