My DIY gun finished

My project is finished (almost, some details on the line release system isnīt fully configurated yet).

Trigger mech, spear and rubber is bought from Totem sub.

All black details on the gun is ebony wood, cut intom teak wood with knife.

Trigger guard and line attachment details are made from a barbeque fork and bicykle wheel spoke.

Four layers of epoxy and two layers of transparent car paint, sprayed on.

Thanks to You who have been giving me advices for making the gun!

Thumbs up Re: My DIY gun finished

wow amazing. mad skill. agree with getawayfk maybe opening more holes for bands would be good for longterm hunting and easy power ups.

great looking gun. nice details.

Re: My DIY gun finished

Thank you for the feedback!
The decision to make one hole came when I spoke to a person about how much power that I will need for the kind of spearfishing I have in mind. He thought that a single 17 mm band would be perfect, and I was totally new in this field so I did as he told me. Whem I start to use I will find out if that was a good decision. I will mostly use it in lakes and rivers for pike, bream and perch.

The main reason for me to build the gun was the plaeasure of working with my hands. But I hope that the gun shoots well too.

And yes, I have SEVERAL plans for new guns. A lot of them came even before I finished this one. The next gone is going to be made of ice hockey sticks, painted, and have some decorative metal details.

It wolud be nice if as many people as possible post pics of there creations!
/Johan

Super sweet gun man. BAD TO THE BONE. How much to have one made? Not sure if I have the patience to do it myself, or skill.

Re: My DIY gun finished

O man! I never killed any fish other than carp from my bathtub for Christmas and I am no spearo but I like what I see. This gun is so weel done, looks very professional with attention to details. Varnished wood looks really nice like some trim on a fancy yacht. How many hours did You spend on this project?

Re: My DIY gun finished

Thanks! I havenīt counted the hours and a approximation is hard to do... but itīs a lot.
Maybe Iīm going to sell it to the right price, I donīt wanna seem cheap, but of course it wouldnīt be interesting to sell my first gun unless itīs for a relatively large amount, thinking of the many hours and money spent.

I need to try it first at least!

First dive with my gun

Today I dived in a small lake to try my gun. It was also my first time spearfishing ever. It worked just fine, just like i hoped it would. I shot two redfinned perches. I also saw a really big pike but unfortunatelly I had just shot a perch so the gun wasnīt loaded.
(To be honest the perches wasnīt that big but Iīm gonna eat them of coarse. From now on I will only shoot bigger fish).

It was 18 celsius degrees in the water and I only had a 3 mm shorty wetsuit so I got quite cold after a while. It was so exciting I couldnīt stop diving until after 80 minutes.

Spearfishing is funnier than I thought, and I thought it would be great!
Itīs also very rewarding to use my homemade gun.
