home made dive knife

i was bored and decided to make a new knife and iki spike

i will put photos when i can

the spike is made of a nail and a handle of a small file then i inserted the nail to the file handle and hay presto and iki spike

the knife on the other hand wasnt easy to make

instructions:

1 get stainless steel(440)

mark out your knifes shape

cut out the shape

screw your knife to a workbench

file or grind down the edges of your knife to make it sharp

make a point

then if you like

make a handle out of mahogony

and get two brass pins

glue the wood onto your knife

place the pins through your drill holes

and there you have it

your own knife

Re: home made dive knife

soren

i got my stainless steel from a workshop

but you can easily purchase some from a local hardwareshop

or maybe get some for free from a workshop

as they discard offcuts that are perfect for a knife

hope that helped

Re: home made dive knife

Probably easier to buy the knife but far less satisfying I'm sure.

Re: home made dive knife

There's a lot of people out there who complain that the ideal knife isn't available. This is the sort of thing they could do to show us what the perfect knife is.

Re: home made dive knife

Make sure the steel is hardened and tempered to be usable as a knife... 440c (avoid 440a: poor knife steel) on a annealed state will make a an easy to bend knife than will not hold an edge.
