Last Year went spearfishing in the North coast, i did it before, and the med was generous with some nice groupers in the past..
last year i had a month of vacation and nearly went fishing every day..i must say i love the clarity of the med. waters and the structure of the rocks/caves etc... sine i was going on my own and from shore most of the time, i didnt venture too far, and started getting the beach lifeguard into the activity with me, i needed a buddy and he was free in the early hours when i go out, everybody is still sleeping no one on the beach... he had a great time too, he enjoys fishing but never tried spearing so was amazed by the experience..i got him to shoot a few times and he even caught a fish... I didnt catch a lot of fish last year but had a great time, and caught some fish in the end...mainly sargos, corvinas and grouper..i even caught a white grouper (AMAZING TASTE!!) next summer im planning to take my RIB (if i ever buy one the dangers of the north coast, especially shore diving, which scared the sh*t out of me last year was that the local bedouins often use dynamite from shore ![]() ![]() , thats scary stuff and got me a bit freaked, i wasnt in immediate danger, but the though of someone throwing dynamite a few hundred meters away isnt cool...hopefully with the RIB ill venture far and away from that i would also like to try it in the winter but the trouble is its too far and the weather is not very predictable, storms are often happening in winter, the best time is to go after a storm, but not so easy to time it..and wouldnt want to make the 500-600 Km drive to watch the beach from my car

We're off to Egypt again this summer, el Quesier again, we really enjoyed it last year so thought we'd give it another go. I bet that 7 degree cooling is nice mate

I used to scuba dive but it felt a little bit to much like bondage to me so not done it in years. Yes the Movenpick, the bay is looked after really well so the freediving is excellent so that's enough entertainment for me

This is a pic of one of the 2 brither islands (big brother) which is off quseir right smack in the middle of the red sea between Egypt and Saudi, as you can see just a rock with a lighthouse..this is one of the best dive spots in Egypt, lots f currents though, lots of sharks, pelagics, beautiful soft corals, a couple of wrecks..the currents there get so strong at times, i think a couple of years back a group of german divers, got swept by the current, they were found the next day by a fishing boat about 60 miles far all huddled up in formation and they were fine, sometimes you'd look at the divers going down in the boat next to you and you can see how quickly their bubbles are drifting far from the reef, a few minutes later, they surface exhasuted from fighting the current and giving their dive guide the odd look for getting the current all wrong

I had hoped to take a trip out there last year but we didn't get time but to be honest apart from the lack of sharks which I had hoped to see again el Quesier was full of sea life, much much better than the Sharm area so we didn't bother. I don't think I will again either. Now if only Cairo was nearby too, what a fantastic town, without doubt one of the most exciting in the world

But I believe that italians come over: we go wherever it's sunny and fishy.Groupers are probably the dream target: they have become so deep here, that it's very rare to spot any italian grouper if not 25meters or deeper! How about there? And do you have Dolphin fish (Mahi Mahi) as well? Dolphs are starting to show up here in the upper Med, but I guess it's easier to find them going south (your northern coast is southern Med for us) |
