I was just clearing my sinus with some salt water and decided to see if I could perform the frenzel technique with fluid (basically to see if I was actually doing the frenzel correctly). I could not get any liquid out of my mouth at all, is it just a natural body response to lower the soft palate if fluid is in the mouth? I tried everything I could to perform the frenzel with liquid but just could not get it. I have read Fattah's document on the frenzel technique, and I am able to get some powerful bursts of air out of my nostrils, but I am not 100% positive I am performing a correct Frenzel.
I was hoping you could give me the definitive answer as to whether or not it is actually possible to perform the frenzel with liquid, and if it is a good indicator as to whether or not I have the frenzel mastered. Thank you.

I found it impossible to force water out of my nose. What finally worked was to empty my mouth, submerge my nose and draw water into my mouth (like reverse packing). If you immediately reverse when water is coming in, with the valves in the right position, you will be able to shove it back out. I'm not sure that this is a very smart thing to do health wise.

It is possible to push water from your mouth into your sinuses. This is the basis for the watersuck equalizing technique (involves using a mask, sucking water in through the mouth and then letting it flow to the sinuses). However, it is extremely difficult -- it makes the mouthfill look joke easy in comparison.
You must overcome the soft palate reflex in order to accomplish it. Another method is to do kechari mudra (sliding the tongue into the nasopharynx) to force the soft palate to stay open.

I don’t claim to know what it will be like to be in your position, but I know that when you leave here, grades will be handed out differently. Your ability to gauge your success will largely depend on how you perceive it. You can shape it, set it up, feel it, and define it. Allow competition to turn inward. Do not depend on awards, money, or other validations." -Jonny Moseley |

I remember that once during my pool training I dove to the bottom of the pool and did Frenzel to equalize. I had some water in my mouth and accidentaly I forced it to my ear tubes instead of air. It was a really bad pain. Maybe it was so bad because of chlorine that they put in the water in pools to keep it clean ... I don't know.
