OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

i am in the market for my first speargun. i live in north idaho so i would be spearfishing in freshwater lakes most of the time. visibility is pretty good up here. ive been looking around the internet and ive narrowed my choices down to the OMER cayman or the rabitech hunter. they are roughly the same price and i can get same sizes as well. any advice would be helpful, thanks.

I've handled the Caymans and they have a truly fabulous grip.

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

I just bought a cayman 90 and love it. The only gripe i have is the safety is small so you have to check it out for yourself (not sure how Rabi is). It isnt a problem for me with thin gloves, but you should still look at it to decide for your self. Make sure that you handle both and check the pull on them (don't load it out of water, but it is still nice to get a sense of how it will feel in your chest as you pull). DiversDirect.com sells OMER and price matches, so check around to get the best deal you can (and maybe %10 cheaper after price match)! Where are you at/diving in Idaho? I am from Seattle and used to live in Kennewick, WA as well?
PS my vote is for the OMER

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

The most important thing is your hunting ability not the guns so don't get stressed out with choosing between the two. Either gun will serve you well. If you can get two guns for different visibilities.

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

i dont really have a chance to try any out cause there really arent that many spearfishers up here. there are only two dive shops and only one of them caries spearguns, and those are JBLs. buuut i am located inbetween clark fork and sandpoint idaho in a town called hope. right on lake pend oreille, and that is also where i will be doing almost all of my diving/spearfishing

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

If you check the Omer site - the cayman has one of the lightest triggers on the market. The grip is the nicest I've ever handled - particularly with the custom grip. They are very light and agile guns.

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

Everyone,

There is another option here as well. Nobody has brought up Rob Allen for fear of bringing in another brand name into the discussion and possibly confusing TOOmas, but these railguns are easily available, are excellent guns, and easy on the wallet (if you have a good connection ).

Six weeks ago I sold a Rob Allen 140cm Signature Carbon to someone and one week ago that gun helped him take fourth place in the 2007 US National Spearfishing Championships.

Jimdoe is right there are many other options. For instance you could buy a Dessault or say Beauchat both good French guns. Get a gun that not going to break the bank and just go spearfishing as much as you can. If you haven't already buy a custom wetsuit as that will keep you much happier in the water then any speargun.

Jim what was he using a 140 cm for in NorCal? I have heard to shoot these long Rob Allens right you have to use a two hand pistol grip.

Re: OMER cayman or Rabitech hunter?

Either or. It depends on how strong you are and what you are using for bands. Those 7mm 170cm shafts are a lot of mass to launch quickly. Then again I'm not a giant guy and I shoot my 120 guns one handed easily.
