Hi Everyone,
I'm off to Playa De Las Americas in Tenerife in a few weeks, I am looking for places nearby to spearfish. Can anyone tell me where it is legal to spearfish in that locality. I am a beginner so would prefer to stay within an easy swim of the shore. I will be in Tenerife from 11/11/06 for two weeks, if there is anyone about there then wants to go freediving with a buddy email me william.humphries@tesco.net. William |

Spearfishing is legal in Spain, you have to get yourself a permit though...however, you can take the risk, since you are going to be a tourist, I think it is not likely you will get yourself into a lot of problems..but if the police catches you and wants..they can confiscate everything and fine you.
![]() Up to you............

We just came back from Tenerife. The Playa de Americas is the one with all the hotels, has only sandy beaches full of turists and is not suitable for spear fishing. You have to go South to Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio where is the rockier vulkanic coast. It is very ruff vulkanic terrain down to the water, but is good for fishing. You have to have a car to get arround there. The cheapest rental agency is call "Cicar" -928 822 900. Also check with the dive shop " Atlantic divers" there for more info on spear fishing. The owner is British, his name is Jeff- so there will be not a problem comunicating. Have a great time there!

Jordan, have to DISAGREE with you there. The greater area that makes up Playa Americas and Los Cristianos has reef all along and the actual beach of Playa Americanos is actually man made crush volcanic rock. So spear away but I would take heed of Marwans/Greendivers comments.
Obviously, diving is subject to swell conditions as it's a major surf destination and get's pretty heavy. P.S South is worth checking though Regards
