Key Largo

hey
i am going to be in key largo from 5-12 march and was wondering where the best opportunities may be found for spearing. i know that you have to be 3 miles out or more in order to spearfish, unless you are below long key. i would like to try and catch a tasty lobster or two (i have already got the license) and was wondering if i can do that within the 3 miles marker in key largo?

say i just end up renting a small boat and motoring out to color changes (patch reefs)
what fish (reef mostly) may present themselves in march on the patch reefs outside of the 3 mile mark?
