New Freedive Discipline

F.BIZ introduces a new freedive discipline:

Freedive in Dahab april 2008

So called survival rules. Only three rules.
1) No equipment
2) Dont hold or pull the line
3) Stay with airways above water for 30 secs after surfacing.

Real freediving

Re: New Freedive Discipline

I think you're allowed a nose-clip; or would you use the other hand in your 1 arm CNF to keep your delicates warm? (Blue Hole in April: 21 degrees... shrink)

No nose clip but it would be better without weight also.

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Read it again you can wear nose clip and weight. Not that much different in the blue hole with those temps realy only mask and wetsuit and turn. True test would be only swimmers .

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Well yes, there is nothing new with it - since it is the oldest of them all.

This event would not have been if not Sebastian Murat had inspired us to do this and some of the top CNF guys helped to develop the rules. The noseclip spoils it - but swimming down without a noseclip may seriously damage your health (speaking of experience).

We are a bit divided regarding the weigths - some women I have consulted demanding the possibility of using weights.
Will Winram is enthusiastic but not fully so until swim cap is allowed (his hair will cause friction), but this is the point - we want to see his hair flowing. Will Trubridge likes it but thinks it is suitable for 26 degrees and above only. He is reluctant to leave his Orca suit that has the perfect bouyancy for him. I guess Fattah would disagree about the temperature (optimum temp for him is 17 degrees I believe). And Herbert, well he is up for anything, and welcomes a discipline without many rules. I hope they all will try this discipline one day.

Sebastian

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Good job Sebastian once they get used to no mask you should see some great depths not much less than normal cnf for some i think.

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Funny to read the comments of all the aces.
It seems to me that equipment does make a difference, and not only in comfort.

For long hair, it does look great under water yes, but a headband would keep it just a bit out of one's face allowing to see, and not getting entangled in the lanyard, something enhancing safety.

On the otherhand I think I would have a hard time relaxing my cold induced tence muscles... I'm not an "Ice Man".

Looking forward to the other's comments, experiences and results!

Kars

Re: New Freedive Discipline

I think it should be no weights and no nose clip... and preferably very cold water.

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Love the concept and your other competitions listed on the site.

What I would like: More advanced notice!!!! But I see you already have many people signed up.

I also think your safety approach is excellent.

This is the kind of thing that will make freediving last and grow... good work.

Personally, I would vote for:
Water temp: 5-8 C or 16-20 C
No other gear: sorry William!

Funnily enough, the restrictions that you've put in the rules I think will make certain people have better dives that they might realize!

Pete

Re: New Freedive Discipline

This is really good and so funny
My mind doesn't work very well . However my idea in future..
this will be in the olypmic games..this techink gives more effect than other types of diving on people.. it remembers me a song Light my Fire from ''The Doors''
Thanks to all who work on it..

Re: New Freedive Discipline

I like the idea of getting back to the roots of freediving.
UFC will be interesting to watch maybe even for people who are not "freediving-nerds", like most of us

This is probably not an new idea, but i like the competitive aspect of it.

HHCWT
Head to head CWT FIM or CNF.
-Two competitors dive at the same official-top
-Two ropes 4 meters apart. The freedivers can see each other.
-No predetermind depht.

Re: New Freedive Discipline

Laminar: Do not worry. It will come your way. In ten years when the general public hear the word FREEDIVING, this is what they will think of. This is what they will see on televeision several times a year. This will be the world championship. This is it, the real thing.

They will think of men and women in swimming trunks breaststroking themselves amazingly deep - and as Steinar says: they will be doing it side by side om limitless lines.

There will be posters on the walls in the teenagers rooms with Will posing with shirt of. Herbert looking up from under his eyebrows below his shaved head. Stepanek will be sold as a plastic toy with the kids meal on macdonalds. And there will be groupies, and public challenges, and doping accusations, and blackouts, and interviews at CBS 60 minutes.

And all of you guys will be able to say: I actually been around since the time before freediving was fun to watch.

And you might actually see the result of this first UFC, because there will be cameras around.
