Spora pocket replacement?

Ok divers, I need a little advice. Destroyed one of my Sporasub Dessault foot pockets last weekend and need a replacement. Since they don't make them anymore, what will fit my feet and allow me to change blades? I often wear them barefoot or with a nylon sock. Cressi pockets fit me great, the Dessaults were ok barefoot for a 1/2 day and fine forever with thin socks. I don't think Omers will work for me. What is out there in pockets that I can change blades and get as close as possible to the fit I had?

I'll be using the search function, but any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Connor

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

CDavis

if you can get a hold of them, Beuchat Mundial foot pockets are almost identical in shape to the cressi gara pockets are nice and soft and will take after market blades. You should have no problems wearing them without socks for a day.

i personally use omers (New and old) and fin them very good, however my dive partner has the beachat fins and is VERY happy, so i think they will be the go for you.

one thing to mention is that the beachat pockets are a little more difficult to put after market blades in but it is possible.

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

No, Beuchat foot-pockets are not compatible with Sporasubs - they have different rails and also the holes are not positioned identically. Sporasub does not make foot pockets with replaceable blades anymore, but Dessault does, and they are now even better than they were when Dessault made them for Sporasub.

You can get Sporasub foot pockets for example here (26€ for a single foot pocket):
Chausson seul palme ELITE Sporasub(la pièce) Sporasub Palmes pièces détachées

I am not sure if these are the old Sporasubs, or rather the new Dessaults, but I think the later

EDIT: since in the same store they offer the pair of Sporasub Elites for only 45€, you better buy the complete fins instead of a pair of footpockets (2 x 26 = 52€) if you are going to order in that store. However, you may be able to find a better offer elsewhere

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

Trux i understand that beuchat are not interchangable with Sporasub/dessault but i must have missunderstood the original question i was under the impression CDavis was after another option of pocket, did not realize he required the same blade fitment, i was suggesting the beuchat because of comfort similar to the cressi pockets while still being able to mount after market blades, Fibreglass, Carbon etc.

And for barefoot i think the beuchat will be more comfortable than Dessault.

Just my 2c worth

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

Connor searched a replacement for Sporasub-Dessault footpockets, but since Sporasub makes no more any fins with replacable blades, he was indeed looking for alternative. However Dessault offers these foot pockets in improved version, so it is still possible to get them. If you do not have the chance to try the footpockets, it may be better to take the ones you know are fitting. Personally, I use Beuchat footpockets, and had the new Dessaults too, but there is a slight offset in their sizing. I had problems with the Dessaults - the small ones are too small even with a 2mm sock, and the big ones far too big even with 5mm socks. Beuchats are fine for me. It means if you know Sporas/Dessaults are well fitting, you may have similar problem with Beuchats. The additional problems of reusing your old blades (especially if you have some expensive ones) in a different incompatible type of footpockets may not be worth of it.

Another interesting option are Effesub Master PRO Evolution footpockets - they look indeed sweet: PINNE - MASTER PRO EVOLUTION - Effesub, but the problem with the right fit remains, unless you have the opportunity to try them.

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

Good call Trux, have not had alot of experience with Dessault footpockets, almost non existant here in Australia. but if sizing is slightly off and you cant try them then i agree stick with what you know best.

Well at least you have a couple of choices now CDavis, yu can get the same as you had or try something new up to you from what i undertand they are both veru good foot pockets its just a matter of personal fit.

Re: Spora pocket replacement?

Thanks guys, I did not know that Dessault still made a similar pocket. I definitely want to use my old Specialfin and Waterway blades. Will be researching your suggestions.

You can get the Sporasub Elite = H.Dessault = now Mares pockets everywhere. All 3 are 100% identical in form and shape*. The branding differs and sometimes the material feels different (lately softer), but that has always been the case even in the days of the Sporasub / Dessault cooperation.

Cheers

*) Have a look at trux's scubaland link: he meant to show Sporasub Elite pockets, and they are, but re-branded Mares
