Cressi Edy Computer

I bought the Cressi Edy computer not long ago. I've only had it out on one dive so far. I must say, it works as advertised. Switches to freedive mode as soon as it gets wet. The only thing so far is I can't figure out how to get the water temp reading. I know it can do it. I just cant find it scrolling through the functions of the watch. I saw in the manual that it will tell you the water temp but I cant even find the instructions on how to get it to tell you the water temp in the manual.

There is no portion in the manual that tells you how to show the water temp. I saw something in there that talked about showing the water temp as kind of a side note while showing something else. but for the life of me I can not find that section again.

There is no index in the back that you can look up water temp and it will show you what pages to look on.

So I'm hoping someone here that owns the Edy computer will be able to assist me.

Hi, I tried Cressi Edy short time and water temp is in the History mode, where is depth, time etc. you must press right bottom button twice. History mode has three pages every dive.

So there is no way to access it seperate from scrolling thru the history?

Not that it is that important I suppose. Its not a vital peice of information needed while diving. Its more of something I just like to know.

From memory it's the bottom left button while the watch is in the water, in dive mode.

So if I have it in freedive mode between dives resting on the surface and hit the bottom left button it will tell me the water temp?

Yes, any time it is in dive mode. You can test that by wetting the contacts and holding down the button. If it is still updating it will display dashes instead of digits.

Perfect! Thanks for the help. I've only had one dive with it so I'm still figuring it out.

So what do you think of it? Did you have a D3 or similar before this computer? If so how does it compare?

I bought the EDY because I was sick of my Suuntos dying and it was rated much deeper (200m). I have two now, very happy with them except the log could be simpler to navigate. Also the software leaves a bit to be desired - there is a third party application called jDiveLog that is supposed to import the Cressi log files, but I haven't been able to get it to work yet.

It's hardly Suunto's fault if you can take it beyond its depth rating

Do you know how well the Edy handles the scuba side of things? D I have a mate who wants a freedive watch but also wants the scuba functions.

Hey Cam, pity about the diving. Kingies a bit sparse at White this year actually but lots of other critters like whales, big packhorse crays, tuna, marlin and giant salps! Maybe you should come down to Wellington for a dive, it can be pretty good if you don't mind wind, cold and currents.

The EDY is good for scuba from what Tam tells me. She used mine a few times and loved it. Handles nitrox as well as air, and the O2 and N2 side bars are useful. Or a pain in the ass, as I found out when I left one in scuba mode for an 85m freedive. It got very upset and wouldn't let me dive again for a couple of days.

We still had fun on the trip and there were still Kingys...we were just waiting for the big ones as we didn't want to shoot them for the sake of it. One big one would have been enough. We were going to have a go at the Marlin but it didn't work out. I lost some good Snapper too

It's getting a bit boring up north and I was already thinking of heading south next time so I'll have to come to wellington as well. I want to have a go at a few southern species.

I have recently bought the New Edy, and did a couple of freedives. I like the computer in the water but I have problems transfering the Log and History information on the desktop. I installed the software from the disk and when I first connected the watch to the desktop I got a message that I should stop the instalation because the software could damage the system. I stopped it, deleted and reinstalled the initial part. Nothing happened when I conected the watch again. Now, I have the PCLogBook.exe, installed on my desktop, with which I should be able (I think) to transfer the data. Even though I have info on the Log Mode on my watch, I can't transfer it on my desktop.
Any suggestions, please? Thanks a lot.

You'll need to install the driver, the bit you told it not to install. Without it, you can't do a transfer.

I'm currently trying to write a freediver-specific app for the edy, but time constraints are a problem right now. Hopefully I'll find some time to get it moving along soon.
