Suunto Problems

Recently the depth sensor stopped working in my D3. I took it to a local dealer and after they contacted the Suunto importer I was offered a D4 as a replacement as it had a year warranty left. Imagine my supprise and dissapointment when I got a call today from the local dealer that my Suunto Mosquito was ready to be picked up! They didn't know too much about it but she said it looked to have the same features as the D3.

Does the Mosquito have all the same functions/features as the D3? (I never have or would use scuba)

Or should I tell them where to stick it and demand the D4 that I was offered or a full refund?

Re: Suunto Problems

Contacted the importer directly and was told the offer of a D4 was a mistake as the local dealer was told minutes later... but hours later I was told about the D4 offer from the local dealer

He told me my options are:
Accept the Mosquito (which I won't be doing),
Try and get a refund from the shop where I bought it,
Or "upgrade" by paying extra to get the D4

Re: Suunto Problems

If you are in the states call the manager. If they made a verbal offer to you, they have to abide by it. Call the Better Business Bureau and lodge a complaint. Most shops realize that taking care of the customer gets repeat business which is FAR more valuable than being right over $20.

Re: Suunto Problems

Mosquito is more expensive than D3 as it has scuba option.
However, D3 sampling rate is 1s, while Mosquito has 2s freediving sampling time.
Why can't they just give you another D3? I think D3 should be easily available.
I guess you can always take your money back and buy D3 from somewhere else.
Or you can try to sell Mosquito and make few bobs.

The importer said the offer of a D4 was a mistake and he rang the local shop back a few minutes later to correct the mistake...and when I rang the shop up a few hours later there was a mix up and the original offer was told to me

That's why I won't accept the Mosquito. I bought a freediving watch as I only freedive...so why would I accept an inferior product for my needs? From what I have read in other threads most people say the Mosquito is a Scuba watch with a leaning towards freediving.

You would think they would have to offer a product that is the equivelant of what you had or better, not worse

If I get a refund I'll buy one from the States since the dollar is good and they (D4/Cressi) are about the same price as what I originally paid for my D3

My D3 chose the worst time to stop working too. The following week I was spearing on wrecks in 24m and nearly blacked out. I could have kept an eye on my times if I had my D3

Re: Suunto Problems

From what I understand, Suunto is abandoning the Mosquito and D3. We can't get them anymore in our shop. D4, D6, and D9 from here on out it looks like. I would recommend the D4 if for nothing else than the service going forward. That will ensure there will be parts and warranty down the line. I'm not certain how long they support legacy items.

I have a D4 and it has been good to me. I liked the display on the Mosquito/D3 better for readability, but I really like the D4 for all around use. I have to get my data cable so I can start downloading my dives for analysis! Suunto does have a great interface. Too bad the watch doesn't come with the cable...

Re: Suunto Problems

Cam where are you based the reason i asked is i got my broken D3 replaced for a D4 I had to pay for post and packing. The d3 was only a few months old and I requested the d4 as a replacement if that was an option.

Re: Suunto Problems

I'm located in Australia. I guess you have a better company importing Suunto products. I could get a D4 if I "upgraded" by paying the difference which probably meant paying another $500

I should get a refund and order a D4 from the States...

Re: Suunto Problems

Mosquito is AWESOME, much more reliable than D3, I would take it.

I upgraded from Mosquito to D4, D4 is great but expensive.

Even tho Mosquito and D4 have scuba mode, they do great job in freedive mode (I exclusively use them for freedive spearfishing). 1 second sampling difference in Mosquito is negligent, you will never notice it.

I know at least 10 friends whose D3 watches have stopped working....very unreliable.

Take that Mosquito, you will love it.
