Diving in lakes

does ayone here like to freedive in lakes? Apparently not because there are barely any posts in this forum

I live like a five minute bike ride from lake washington and me and my friends like to dive down and catch crayfish under rocks or just follow fish around for a while (all of which is done in 15ft or under.) When Im stuck at home in the summer I go to the lake with my buddys and have good fun even if the water isnt as clear as the ocean and vis isnt too great.

Thats actually what started me on this forum and freediving because I wanted to get better then my friends at catching crawdads

If you live near a lake and you have nothing to do at home I encourage you to call some buddys and go catch your self some crayfish

Joe Diving In Lakes Is Better Than Diving In Chlorinated Urinenated In Public Pools Just Drove 50 Miles One Way Friday To Dive In Lake Geniva Wi Vis Was Good Water Was Cool And Refreshing Top Of My Feet And Toes Took About 5 Hours Before The Burning Situation Went Away No Swimmers Itch From Lakes In Years No Problems With Jelly Fish Or Sun Burn For That Matter. I Wish I New About Freediving Equipment When I Lived 50 Ft From The Ocean In Petersburg Ak Or When I Worked At Some Of The Remote Logging Camps On Other Islands. I Guess For Me Any Type Of Water Makes Me Feel Better. I Have Always Felt Comfortable In The Water Except For Being In Small Boats Overloaded With 55 Gallon Barels Of Desiel When Sea Gets Rough And Wind Picks Up And You Accidentally Swallow Your Snuff On A Coffee Filled Stomach Man I Miss The Good Old Days When I Was Young And Could Abuse Myself.

We dive in Lake Minewanka here. It's in the mountains and unfortunately is under about a foot of ice this time of year. Gets to a balmy 6 or 7 degrees celcius in the summer, at the surface.

i dive in all lakes and the ocen both are so differnt. all over nj and ny.

I do a lot of diving/spearfishing in lakes. What an enjoyable time with my family, or 1 - 2 of my kids. We have a blast. I finally found an "active" sport we all can enjoy.

I like not having to worry about sharks and other creatures...I'm the top preditor here. However, when one encounters a large bass or Northern Pike, they think they are the top preditor & are not afraid of you. One can get really close...kinda cool.

Does take some "scouting" to find the lakes with the best visability. It is strange how one lake can be perfectly clear & another 10 minutes away had a visability of less than 1m.

Also, the best vis is in the early spring or winter (Algae count is down)...if there is open water, which leads to cooler temp waters & thus a 5mm open cell wet suit.

Good luck, check the regulations for spearfishing as they vary widely from location to location. By the way, crawdads are very good eats when prepared correctly.
