I am wanting to get into freshwater spearfishing, but dont know where to start. My fishing will be done in a private lake in southern indiana. Information seems to be limited so any help would be great. Gear advice would be helpful Thank you in advance for your reply.

All the members of Altasub are freshwater spearos mainly. Also Wisconsin Freedivers & Spearos have a large group of spearos. So you have a large group of people to question.
The first thing which I saw you did is try to find a partner. If you have someone to help spot you in diving and teach you the ropes you are set. If you tell us a little more about the type of spearfishing you will be doing that would be helpful. Fish, visibility, contour of the bottom, what depths those fish hang out at. Anything would be helpful.

What is altasub and how do I get in touch with them? It is my private lake approx 16acres, max depth 27feet, viz at best in spring and fall prob10-15feet. Panfish, catfish, etc.. may be targeted. More than anything i will be exploring. The contour varies but i image that i will be hunting mostly suspended fish in less than 15feet of water. I saw a small pneumatic gun that looks pretty cool made by mares would this be ideal. I know absolutely nothing about guns, fins, masks etc.. I am located in southwestern indiana 5 min from evansville if anyone is a nearby hunter. Thank you in advance for any advice.

catfish seem like they would be fun to hunt.. there are several lakes here in southern california that i am eager to try out, but so far, living 5 minutes from the sand, i am mainly a saltwater hunter.
