How do you get your friends into freediving?

I am in the position of being very enthusiastic about diving, but having no one to dive with.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get friends excited about freediving and willing to give it a shot? I'm not a brave enough man to try and get my girlfriend to try freediving so it has to be my mates.

Look forward to you input,
Lachlan

During the summer when They only need 15 euro suits is a good time to try.
Either way I feel with you..

Never managed it myself. When I was younger I tried to get my mate to come out spearing with me. All I got was "Harpoon guns! ..kinell we can rob the ..kin post office with those!"
Hope you have better lick than me

I am not familiar with your location but snorkelling in an area with a lot of marine fauna can be either A) Very inciting and interesting for people or B) Very scary for some people.

if your mates are of the A kind shallow water snorkelling can be a good entry level thing, you can then impress them by diving the full 12m to the bottom and showing them a bubble ring or something.

I tried to get my girlfriend to freedive but she could never clear her ears.

Organize a trip up north to the coral coast, bring your mates, and make sure there is absolutely nothing for them to do but go diving.

Or tell them that free divers get all the girls (wouldn't that be scary?)

Or come to NSW and dive with me!

Best of luck to you! The most common result I seem to get is people telling me that I'm insane!

I use the Spearfishing approach and show them videos- and they are usually "aw man! that looks awesome!" I've got 2 friends that want to do it- but the fund's dept of their lives are keeping them from getting wetsuits- Otherwise they'd be in.

Pastor, I was under the impression you pride yourself in you licking ability

Back to topic, as I see it mate you have a few options, one is the shallow water snorkelling trips to get them interested. Or if you lot do a bit of fishing aswell organise a trip out to go hunt for lead and lures and such, I know more than one person who got into the game that way, myself included .
Another way could be to appeal to their sense of adventure and show them pictures of diving, also leave like a freediving book lying around your house, they can page through it when theyre visiting. You could also appeal to their hunters instinct or their stomacks by grabbing some edibles while your out diving next time and preparing it for them, tell them while your eating how you got it all on your own, maybe theyll want to do something similar

GIRLS,girls,girls- tell them your meeting a bunch a girls out in the ocean to dive, party and hook-up...once out there use the "ah you know chickees they are always late, they'll get here...soon, then start spearing once they get a fish- mission is accomplished...they'll be hooked for life.

Re: How do you get your friends into freediving?

give up on converting your mates and try and convert a local scuba club - worked for me every time! Just offer to run a freediving session for them one evening in the pool - you'll get a couple of buddies for sure if you do it well
