Hello freedivers,
First of all , let me apologize that the AIDA ranking lists have not been updated since mid August. The reason is simply lack of time for the designated updater, yours truly. The ranking lists have for the last five seasons been updated manually by me, and this takes its toll evert time in order to exclude human error. The good news is that Simo Kurra of Finland through 2007 have been working on a more dynamic ranking list system, comprising of a web based database listing ranking lists automatically. With this system, more individuals will have access to updating results, and it should be up and running as of 2008. Here over Christmas, the 2007 lists will be updated and attempted completed, and for this we are missing a few registered competitions from the past year. They are listed below. Some of you might already have send some of these results to AIDA earlier, but if so, they seem to have been lost in the mailing systems. Please send them to us again at the E-mail address ranking@freedive.nu. For format of the results, see this link. If any of these events were cancelled, please inform us. It seems to be a real hazzle for Aida to bring in all the competitionresults from all around the world. To make a ranking is obviously a lot of work for the people involved (and most of them do this without getting payed?). Why not make the arranger of the competitions responisble for sending in the results to AIDA within a timelimit after the competition is held? If they dont, the competition results wont count in the next ranking. This is of course bad for the athlethes involved, who dont get their results counting in the following ranking. But this would put the pressure on the organizers to get it done. And if they don't, maybe the competitors will skip this competition next year, and chose one that is better organized? It should be a really easy thing for arrangers to pass on the results to AIDA, so maybe they just need an incentive of some kind, and perhaps a more positive one than punishment? Any suggestions?

I agree, if the competition organisers want an AIDA competition with AIDA judges, AIDA rules and safety protocols and advertise it as an AIDA ranking event, then surely the onus must be on them to get the results to AIDA within a certain timeframe. If I was to compete in an AIDA ranked comp then not have my ranking counted because the organisers didn't send them in then i'd be pretty pissed off, especially if there was sponsorship involved. A comp isn't finished when the last diver is finished, there's still the last hurdle of protests, compiling results, drug tests, sending final results to AIDA etc.

I agree 100% with this. If an event organiser does not get the results into AIDA within 1 month of the event, then that organiser should be stopped from holding any more AIDA events. The AIDA national that is holding the event should also be made aware that the results have not been received by AIDA Int.

I think there's a much easier solution. For the future, with Simo K's database system, the idea is to leave the updating of results to the presiding judges. Meaning that they are not to abandon the competition site without ensuring that they get the final set of results along with them, on paper, electronically, what ever. Then it's the lead judge who gets a temporary login and password for Simo's system and responsible to get them typed into the database before so-and-so date. I believe that's the intention by Simo and Bill S.
