Dolphin freediving

Hello everybody,
I just wanted to share (again ) a few photos I took while freediving this weekend here in Eilat, Israel. Unfortunately the visibility wasn't all that great, but the "objects" in the pictures made up for it...

Not deep at all, around 6 meters (24 feet)
And you are all welcome to come and visit Eilat, just leave me a PM before you get here

Wonderful stuff, and so close! I've never been able to get anywhere near that close. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

I use a Cannon Ixus 850 IS (AKA SD 800 in the USA)
Its a super small, very powerfull pocket camera:

And the reason i took this specific model is that it has the widest lense possible in pocket cameras, 28mm, this is extremely important when getting a camera for underwater shooting, remember, in water, the further away you are from the object the more water noise you get in the picture, so you want to be as close as possible to your object and get as much as possible of it in the frame, a wide lense enables you to do that, and together with a 7.1 MP and 1.9 shots per second ability, this baby is a winner.

I got my Panasonic Lumix FX01 for the same reason! Wide angle is cool - even on dry land.

Re: Dolphin freediving

Mabye this is a stupid question but what do you use to potect it from the water?
Is it a standard camera protection becauase nikons water protection thing costs 200 euro to my camera. Thats much too expensive i think....

Re: Dolphin freediving

200€ ist about as much as it takes to get a decent waterproof housing. - Depending on maker and model of the camera.
Nicely, panasonic hasn't changed the housings for their cameras for several generations, so one could use the same housing for many generations of cameras. - And it looks like the current models will fit into the same housing still.

That is definetly an advantage with panasonic cameras, I use a case made specifically for this model, bought at around 180USD.
