New discipline... New World Record

We are always trying to push the envelope here at NoTanx,
And we have a challenge.
A new world record.
And possibly a new discipline.

No Limits Dynamic (Human Powered)
NLD (hp).

A weight belt is worn by the “Towers” and lanyards attached.
The towee must be continuously towed (apnea) by up to 3 Towers in a relay.
The towers must also be swimming apnea, but only for 25m.

Arnaud Palu set the first record of 75m tonight in New Malden pool.
It will go down in History as the 1st World Record in this discipline.

The main challenge is the breathold.
A hold of up to 1min is particularly difficult when trying not to laugh.

The Bar is set … What can you do?
Footage to follow.....

Re: New discipline... New World Record

Well I quess I would simply tie myself to the rope maintain loosly a hydro position, and have monofinners tow me trough the water. With a breath hold some where over 6', I think 4' should be doable for me. Now it depents on how fast my seahorses swim and how regular. Maybe they can do 1m/s? 240m sounds nice.

But to be hounest I don't think it's something that is much appealing to me. The joy of selfpropulsion is the nice part of dynamic for me.

If I could introduce an new discipline it would be team dynamic. Where two swimmers belonging to a team of two, start together and make use of each other's slipstream to swim the furtest. I figured it could look really gracefull and elegant with mono's and teamwork will make a big difference, try it in a 50m pool.

The other Idea was blowing bubbles in the deep on a single breath.
Each participant is allowed two attempts. Different points can be given:

One whole bubble ring, 1 point.
One whole Bubble ring reaching the surface, 1 point.
One whole bubble ring going through another, an additional 2 points.
One whole bubble ring going through 2 other rings, an additional 6 points.
Etc..

I was thinking of this bubble ring comp because it looks beautifull, fun and cool to an wide audiance and camera. (I think more so than just plain static) Many rings, controll and a long static are also very impressive to witness.
The only difficulty appears to eliminate the advantage some big lung people may have in the amount of bubble rings they can produce.

Have fun, be creative!

Love, Courage and Water!

Kars

Re: New discipline... New World Record

A whip under water benny? i'd be thinking more along the lines of a polespear/cattleprod or sharkshield thingy on a stick that could induce the towers to "get by" get em in" etc. You could also try singing/humming the theme "Rawhide" as you are towed.
Maybe a speargun with no spear and longer rubbers. ouch

Re: New discipline... New World Record

ahhhh a whole new use for spearguns and freediving, i agree a three rong could be more effective here...do you have to bring carrots to feed the towers after each attempt ?

NO...............The towing vehicle is a speedboat. No limits dynamic could then cover a mile.

Towed through bubble rings by a submarine under ice in a cave without a suit while internet surfing upside down with a hockey stick.

Haydn dear boy...
NLD (hp) clearly the hp stands for Human Powered, please don't get us confused with the "others" who use boats and submarines..... please lets keep it pure!

Re: New discipline... New World Record

OK. Try this. You have 2 towers, one at each end of the pool. Each has a fishing rod with a line attached to the Towee. All three submerge together and the first tower, reels in his fish. After one length, the other tower reels him back. And repeat.

Or, the towee simply does a static is in the middle of the pool and it becomes a tug of war between the fishermen.

Or, the swimmer is is in the pool half way, and only one fisherman stands on a starting block with the fishing rod. Its up to the swimmer to swim away from the fisherman who trys to reel him in. Both hold their breath. The swimmer wins if he gets to the end, the fisherman wins if he reels the swimmer in. As soon as you run out of air, you have to stop (either swimming or reeling). At that point, the person still holding their breath continues to either swim or reel unopposed. If the task is completed, that person wins. If the task still fails, its a draw.

Of course, if the fisherman is pulled or falls off the block, he loses. The fisherman has to wear a nose clip and his mouth is sealed with duct tape. So in order to breath he has to pull off the tape first, which means he will drop the rod which allows the swimmer the chance to finish.
