What do people make of this? The website and 'science' make me nervous
Index From someone who did their course recently in Sydney, they teach pool breath hold, both inhale and exhale but do not teach risks of hypoxic blackout, how to deal with it if it occurs or any type of buddy spotting.

Yes, I agree, that's misleading BS. Although oxygen is necessary for the metabolism, it does not mean that by "better" breathing you can create more energy, allowing you to eat or drink less. The body will simply take exactly as much of oxygen as it needs for the metabolism. Assuming the body is healthy and functioning properly, it will control the ventilation automatically to get the amount of oxygen it needs.

All sorts of weird stuff on that site. The bit on CO2 tolerance improving lactic acid tolerance and anaerobic threshold (!) is particularly confused....

they are teaching surfers, swimmers and lifesavers how to do all sorts of stuff:
"The exercises rid the body of excess carbon dioxide built up throughout the day or overnight." .....oh dear!!

"Pranayama - Fast breathing" are the special exercises the guy who did the course told me. That would be hyperventilation by a less fancy name.
So we have for beginners - empty lung training and hyperventilation.....without any hypoxic theory (no blackout or samba mentioned), no buddy spotting or recovery/first aid training.
