Hello fellow fish

Im not sure if this is the place to post this but you can hound me later on that and ill learn. I have been reading these forums for the past 5 hours and realized i HAD to make an account. Firstly, I am 21 years old have been diving for ONE year now. Everything started as a boredom time killer with a couple of my friends and decided to buy SNORKLE GEAR lol. I have since grown far apart from what people around here call SNORKLING as i hate the damn surface lol. In the past month i have befriend someone who has got me WAY into Freediving. I cant stop thinking about it, and it bothers me not a bit. I used to be a 1/2 pack a day smoker for maybe 5-6months(restraunt work stressed me out). I used to have athsma when i was littler and had to have a couple inhalers but have grown out of that. Ill be honest when i say im a POTHEAD, but i have been making it a point to cut back hard and have done so well actually(3days wow). When i first started diving it was with a spring suit and random crap i had bought spur of the moment kinda deal. Now i use my friends Yazbeck suit with weights and Picasso fins and well, ya big change. I have been at the beach my whole life body surfing and surfing so im used to the water to say the least. Ive been on a natural high for the past month because Ive been trying hard to up my skills in diving and have seen great results. A year ago i was smoking a cigg b4 getting in the water fkn around with my friends getting maybe 10-12ft deep and loving it. Since ive stopped smoking CIGGS i have seen hugeeeee changes in my lung power etc. My friend has me doing breathe exercises and one thing that I do personally is go on youtube and find tons of Spanish and Italian freediving videos and study out my a** on them. When the person dives, i hold my breathe as if i was next to him descending(they got me beat badly tho still =]). I can hold my breathe 3:15(ish)while sitting here and been timed at 1:30 at 25ft under as well. I know this isnt great and i just wanted to make it a point to myself more than anything that i have a while to go. I live in Palos Verdes,CA for random chance that anyone knows where it is. I live 5min walk distance to a HUGE kelp forest at a place called Lunada Bay(look up some youtube vids not too bad). We shore dive i guess but go pretty far out there and my max depth is 30ft at max but given opportunity could prob go deeper. Theres a lot of crap out there to say the least and ive grown very accustomed to petting 4-5ft horn sharks and being very aware of what im doing all the while learning every step. Theres a mean windswell hitting tomorrow here around 12ft so no diving tomorrow so i was bored and stumbled around this forum to get my fix and i have gotten that and plenty more. I just wanted to say wuddp and give u my story, however broken and badly written it was. I have endless questions and just wanted to start it here by letting u know what my story is. Im never going to stop diving, and I will never stop enjoying it. To anyone who got this far, Thanks a lot for reading my nonsense and I look forward to writing plenty more haha jk. ::dives back into the forums::

Hi Derek, welcome to the forums. Not being rude but, ow, my eyes hurt. Thank goodness you don't type in block or huge letters as well.

Good to see you've been bitten by the freediving bug and also move on to a healthier lifestyle. Your level of motivation to freediving is an inspiration.
