I am recently thinking f getting a new kayak..and was looking into the ocean kayak prowler 15..heard a lot of good reviews about it..i juts have a question.
does anyone know what sort of gear you could fit into the hatch of such kayaks? will it take a speargun and long fins for example? this s a link to the kayak: Prowler Trident 15™ - Sport Kayak With Plenty Of Legroom - Ocean Kayak

The hatches on SOTs like the prowler open into the hull of the kayak, they are not separate compartments, so you should have plenty of room to put stuff inside provided they fit through the opening itself.

I use a 15ft Scupperpro and I can fit in a 90cm gun with spear. I put it in the front hatch and it slides back under the legspace, where the long black hatch would be on the prowler 15ft. I tend to wear the fins as I'm afraid I'd drop them while trying to get them on my feet at sea. Also, if I get pitched out in a choppy sea, I want to be wearing fins and belt so's I can swim properly.
I also carry anchor with chain and line, lobster hook, a drink, sometimes food, a torch, a camera and a spare breakdown paddle, all in the hatch.

I see you've put a link to the Trident Marwan.
The Prowler 15 and the Prowler Trident are different Yaks. The Trident is the latest Ocean out there and has a nice hatch between your legs that you can put a 6ft fishing rod in no problems, so your fins and gun will be just fine! How'd you like the Scupper Sunfish? I'm torn between one of them and spending a lot more on one of these: Kayak UK - home of Kaskazi Kayaks in the UK

Thanks guys..youre right maggers..i am interested more in the trident and that center hatch (the rod pod) is what made me more interested,,i think its very convenient to reach your gun and fins from a seated position and just jump in..
i currently have a sevylor tandem kayak, but i think the trident will be more suitable for me.. the only challenge i think will be transportation...i have to invest in a roof system probably as well as a beach cart

Bit in the bank? I wish, and the roof needs ripping off and redoing....A 100quid speargun is one thing, a 1,500 quid kayak which I wouldn't use all that much is a bit different!
Anyway, would choose the Scupper over the Prowler or Trident because its quicker. Thats what everyone who's used both says on various forums I've been lurking on for the last 6 months. Makes sense too, the Scupper is narrower than both. Marwan, you want to learn stuff about the Trident? This thread AnglersAfloat - Login contains more info and pics than you'd ever want. Enjoy.

I might point out that the tank well on my Tarpon seems longer and fits my long fin dive bag nicely I have also rolled it and it seems to hold everything in its place quite well.
At first it seems hard to turn around and grab the gear from the back but it don't take long and you'll be sitting sideways I love towing it while diving it seem it isn't even there. but if you want a drink of water just give tug and there is a lot more water than you could carry on a dive float. I made a Greenland style paddle (bored one day)and it feels a lot nicer on the arms after a day of diving. hope this helps
