Sporasub Question

I have a sporasub 55 as a backup gun. The safety mechanism popped out and the bands broke. This year I want to let my girlfriend use it and I have a few questions.
1. Should I be really worried about the safety being broken? I'm not sure how the trigger mechanism on these guns is?
2. I want to put stronger bands on it (original band was really weak and didn't have good success with it). Will this be too much for the trigger mechanism on the little gun?
I know that people on this site have basically tried every gun known to man so I figured someone may have experience with this one and could help me out. Thanks.

Re: Sporasub Question

If your talking about the sporasub black viper or the aspic then you dont have to worry about the safety. Mine fell out years ago and and it still works great. I have also used that gun with 2x16mm so it should be strong enough for you..

Re: Sporasub Question

I have used sporasub guns (viper) for quite a few years now and have found them to be very reliable.
As a rule I always remove the safety form all my guns when I get them ( the only safe guns is one that is not loaded) this also prevents the dreaded seeing the biggest fish of your life, lineing it up, pulling the trigger, only to find that the safety is on!

I have fitted over the years many new types of rubbers, basically a new set each year have never found it to be a problem.

Thumbs up Re: Sporasub Question

Same as they said. I too have a perfectly working old Viper without safety button and with 19mm bands. Don't worry.
Good idea to bring on the girl spearing with you

Re: Sporasub Question

Viva los Viper!!!! As everyone has said, hardy and reliable guns - you don't have to worry. I have a grey 55cm Viper from 1997 and it is my 'hole' gun. Never failed.

Re: Sporasub Question

Spaghetti always gives the best advice.

Re: Sporasub Question

Thanks guys. Good to know the gun is safe. Last thing I need is for the girl to come out and for the gun to accidentally shoot because the trigger failed. Would probably be her last spearfishing trip. I'll put some stronger rubbers on it this summer and try it out. I'll post about the success/failure of the endeavor since it seems there's quite a following for these little guns.
