Greetings from Norway

I`m new on DB and just wanted to say Hello.
I was introduced to freediving in Bergen and started out spearfishing there. In 2007 I moved to Oslo and started training with "Oslo fridykkerklubb." So I`ve trained a good year now and I`m participating in my first competition in the end of this month. (Aarhus triple challenge) No high ambitions, just want to check out competitive freediving. But I need all the help I can get from you guys, so I`m in here a few hours each day to learn something new.

Re: Greetings from Norway

Welcome, B-J! Aarhus Triple Challenge was my first competition too, you will be in good hands there. This forum is also a good place to start. Have a good read, ask as much as you like and train well

Re: Greetings from Norway

Freediving in Norway is cold yes, but we have thick opencell suits so we keep warm. But changing in the winter with hot, soapy water in a few degrees Celsius is not a lot of fun.
Spearfishing is most common on the westcoast of Norway, and I`ve had some wonderful dives there. Popular fishes to spear are catfish(wolffish), monkfish(bullmouth) and cod. So we have few hideous fishes to spear. A small video her:

Re: Greetings from Norway

That's awsome, I couldn't even picture what Norway conditions would be like, great video What's the water temp when there's ice on top? I complain when it gets below 60 degrees F....

Re: Greetings from Norway

The watertemp would be very close to the point where it freezes. From this movie its from a river I think so it`s possible it`s below 0`C Here is another video of winter freediving from Oslo. My friend Gordon is Diving and Steinar is holding the camera

Re: Greetings from Norway

Cheers and welcome, it's a good forum.
Great vid- looks a lot like our west coast Canada conditions and environment. I'd love to come to Norway and dive someday.
Erik (yes, some Norwegian blood in me haha).

Re: Greetings from Norway

It's not as cold as it looks... winter sea temps are OK, it's the getting changed in a blizzard that is the problem.

I like getting in the hot shower afterwards, and not being able to tell if the water coming out is freezing or boiling me hahaha!

Re: Greetings from Norway

Nice to see you too Elisabeth. I was doing well for the competition, but then I became sick. Maybe I did to much. I`ve trained more DNF than DYN lately. Are you planning "no suit" in the outdoorpool as well?
