Greetings From Scottsdale, Arizona!

Hi,
Just want to say hi to all divers on the forum.
Little bit about me: I'm freedive and spearfish for a long time, but only on vacations and not in USA\Mexico. Now I'm looking to expand my spearfishing into bigger game (so far personal record is about 7 lbs) since being from Europe I was always using just small pneumatic (visibility is not that great where I'm from). I bought 3 band JBL last year, but it was a little bit awkward to handle and aim. Sure - a lot more power, then I used to, but not much more fish then before with old pneumatic. I complete subscriber to the 'an indian, not an arrow' explanation, so can anybody provide some insights? I'm thinking that I don't trust my band gun and still wait to get to close to the fish. What is 'normal' shooting distance for 50"?
Considering that getting closer will give the shooter bigger aim, but it will unlikely that fish will allow to get too close. I usually shoot from 5-6 feet..
I'm spearfishing mostly from the beach in Sea of Cortez.
Thanks!
