Morocco?

Hey guys,

Have done a little search and was wondering what Morocco would be like in Feb? Have a week and wanted to do a bit of spearing and just a relax on the beach in the sun!!!
Anyone been out there spearing? Portinfer, I saw a thread that you may have been going but not sure if it went ahead?

What sort of temperature can we expect on the Atlantic coast?

Cheers

Dave

Re: Morocco?

Dave - try and get hold of one of the past copies of apnea magazine from their website (french unfortunately) they had an article about 8 months ago I think which described a spearfishing trip straight off the desert in southern Morocco - they visited 3 or 4 locations with some pretty good catches from what I could gather (from the pictures!!)

good luck

Re: Morocco?

Cheers James,
Will have a look on the website now.
Do you spear in the uk at all? I am moving down to Cardiff in a few weeks, I could see that you are in Bristol, do you dive south wales or more around Devon, Cornwall?

Re: Morocco?

I spear on the south devon coast from Portland along to Thurlestone and I have tried the Gower without much success. However I want to fish the Gower more next year - just need more time to experiment with locations - PM me if you want to dive some time. Let me know if you cannot find the article on Morroco - I should be able to help you.

Re: Morocco?

OK Dave so the magazine article is called "Vers les sentiers de l'or " in magazine 177. If you register with www.apnea.fr (free) and search the archives under "Etranger" you should find it.

Re: Morocco?

Dave - will probably get some diving in this winter, chepstow sounds good, but I have just bought a new 7mm elios suit so will be doing some spearfishing aswell weather permitting (brhh) we should tie up if the wind allows and get into the sea. I will PM you when I go out next.

James

Re: Morocco?

Well up for some winter spearing!! do you get any viz on the southcoast in the winter? I went in yesterday and thats the latest I have speared bass up here, but if the swell and wind stays down then I am sure it will be fishable for another month!!?
I have a few spots in west wales for the summer which have always produced bass, mullet and big pollack.
Cheers for that
Dave

Re: Morocco?

I read the article too and researched going there between last March and May--I didn't. February is very bad. Rough, cold and very murky. Coincidentally, few friends of mine were visiting the same region in Jan/Feb while I did the research. I called them and they confirmed pretty bad sea conditions, but the landscape and food are awesome. February is good on the Southern Hemisphere, though.
