Re: calling all spearos from italy!

You mean Venice? I think you will be too busy with your girlfriend to toy about diving gear when you'll be there. That place has the mysterious, magic power of boosting people's erotic potential. Last time I took a holiday in Venice with a girl, I remember we spent all the time making love 7 to 10 times a day. That was insane. I was very thin and pale when we got back home. But happy.
However, your question has been asked recently on deeperblue, and I told the guy that from information I had form venetian spearos, there is no good dive gear shop in the historical center, but a good one in Mestre, which is the firm land district of Venice. It's called Mestre Sport. http://forums.deeperblue.net/general...ghlight=venice

Re: calling all spearos from italy!

Hi Spaghetti,
i met last year in Nizza an authentic and experienced prof tuna/swordfish fisherman from Sicilia. I tasted "le delizie del capo" (pottargo++) and we talked about a possible blue water trip on his boat in the strait of Messine( high season should be June). Do you have more info about this spot? I did about 20 years ago some spearfishing in sicilia and in the Isola Eole, and at that time I was not equiped for pelagics...

Re: calling all spearos from italy!

bottarga tastes delicious: it's the name of fish eggs (tuna or golden mullet) used as a pasta dressing. An even more challenging taste is lattume: the sperm of the male tuna, very good on spaghetti (oops, did I really say that?!)
I'm not a sicilian, and I just had one sperfishing holiday on that Island, but it was in the south east. Don' know about the strait of Messina, but I think there's a heavy boat/ship traffic since the straight is narrow. Eolie will be quieter, as june is not yet full season for tourism.
In june you're likely to meet AJ's (our Aj's weigh up to 50 kilograms)and for sure the sicilians have a great tradition in spearfishing and freediving, so I bet that with an expert local boatman/buddy you will be satisfied with the experience.

Re: calling all spearos from italy!

Are spaghetti "al nero di seppia" more aphrodisiac than spaghetti "con lo sperma di tonno"? in my opinion only very experienced spearos should answer to this crucial question...

reminds me of a similar trip i made to the canary islands in the late nineties, sort of had that same exact experience we never knew what existed within a 1 km radius from the hotel records were definitely broken in that place and scary facial expressions exchanged

Re: calling all spearos from italy!

And here I was thinking that they were actually joking about that italian quality, good on yer mate Id say that definately has to be called a honeymoon tan, when you come home with a red line down the middle of your face from peeking through the curtains and turning back to the bed and saying nope its still raining
