My first Mediterranean Trip

Hello friends,

It has been 3 month since I stepped foot into the water. Tomorrow It'll be my first med experince ... hopefully it will not be dissapointing. I know Med is not as rich as the Arabian gulf, but I'm hoping to bring dinner with me anyway.

Well I hope u enjoy the new experience in the med sea (well mine was from the med sea to the Persian gulf and the new transition was pretty cool)....

So where are you located now? And what gear will you be using? and is it the first time you spearfish there?

I still cannot believe this. My first Med experience is the worst ever. After lots of excitment and anticipation, I came back not only empty handed, but I didn't even get to shoot a single shot.

Day 1: windy with 0 visibility.

Day 2: good visibility with very little wind. Went in the water at 8:00 AM and covered depth from 1 - 15 meters. The location looked very promising with lots of caves and hundreds of huge rocks BUT NO SIGN OF A SINGLE FISH LARGER THAN MY FINGER. What a dissapointment! we covered a diameter of over 1 kilometer with same results.

The area was in Latakia (Syria) I have no idea why we had such bad results. Maybe my Arabian gulf days had spoiled me!

My friend, the shores of the med are empty due to over fishing. There are two ways of fishing in the med: you go deeper cause the fish is below 20-25m, or you take a boat and visit some spot that it is not much exploited where you can find fish in more shallow water.

I'm sure you're right. I cannot go below 14 meters so I guess I'll give it one more shot and try different spots ... you never know ... I might get lucky

Gladiator, may'be you should try going in early morning at around sunrise time, where fish are out....

First of all you gotta no where to spearfish.

Secondly you went to the Med expecting to much, there isnt many big fish in the med.

Thirdly next time you go to the Med i suggest you do some shore spearfishing, get a few bass and bream. ;]

any trip to the Med should be well studied before even buying a ticket. Types and quantities of fish vary drastically from place to place. Even if a spot looks awesome, it doesn't mean you will find anything there. You need patience to get fish here. The bigger fish come usually with a combination of studying locations, hunting capabilty and luck. Lots of luck. I am sorry about your trip.
Try hooking up with someone in the area before your next trip. It can make a big difference.

It's really strange that you didn't see anything though. Did you inspect the caves good, or did you just inspect the open water aroud them??
