I work right across the street...they let you free dive at RV??? I know there's a scuba area, but I thought free diving would be considered "swimming" which is a no-no, right?

I'm strictly an armchair free diver right now. If I can ever figure out how to equalize while inverted, I'll shoot you a PM.

Hey I have been planning to go to Round Valley for couple of weeks now, my friend free dives there, but not off a boat as far as I know. He said it is beautiful. I have an open water diver certificate but have not done much free diving before besides recreational, not even sure how its possible for you to go down 40 feet that way I would love to go sometime, you only dive or fish from time to time also ? I can go pretty much any day of the week at this point, so week days are good for me, perhaps even better then weekends.

yes u can freedive at rv but u need a snorkel permit that u get from the ranger station, it is free but u must have a drivers linsense and they do charge u to park. the same as regular diving and u must sign in and out. best place to dive in tri state area water is crystal clear blue.

That place looks great. I live in NYC and would love to make it out there sometime before the end of summer. I saw on the state DEP web site that:

Quote:
All divers are required to register at the area office, have a dive buddy, inflatable vest and a dive flag. Divers must check-in prior to, and checkout after, each dive.
I don't have any sort of vest or flag... do you, or have you had any trouble with this requirement? I could make some purchases.

It looks like there's a NJ Transit stop right near the park, but it might be a bit of a hike to get to the park entrance. Any experience with that?

Any chance you're going this weekend?

Hmm... according to the NJTransit schedule, they don't run out to Lebanon on weekends (train stops in Raritan). I'll have to wait for some weekend when we can pick up my girlfriend's car from West Orange.

Re: free dive nj/ round valley

Hey guys, I live in SE PA, and have been considering RV as a place to go. I camped there a few years ago, but have not yet gotten a chance to freedive there. I have an inflatable vest, but don't know where to get a flag, other than the shore dive shops, and I'll have to find a dive buddy, but from your enthusiasm it sounds like it's worth it.

any spearfishing allowed?
