Alaska freedivers

I am a freediver living in Dutch Harbor, Unalaska Islands of the Aleutian Island of Alaska wondering if I am the only one up here in Alaska. It would be great to comparer techniques, equipment and experiences if there is anyone else out there.

Re: Alaska freedivers

I am fairly new to freediving but have an excellent teacher in Alaska. I understand my teacher has purchased some new longfins for freediving. Also, arrangements have been made to attend the "womens only" freediving training in Kona this Nov. I look forward to spearing the "big one" soon!
glad to be a part of the fun!

Re: Alaska freedivers

Dan,

I can't say I am an Alaskan freediver but would love to come up there and try some time. What type of suit do you use? I am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to do mainly gear fishing for some halibut/rockfish and whatever else but would love to do freediving even more. I would particularly like to harvest my own King Crab if that is at all possible. I'd read on one dive charter site that they get these in SE Alaska during the winter but that it is not legal for non-residents to harvest at any time. I've done the abalone thing in N. Cal. too. Missed it the last couple summers since I made the ill-guided choice of moving to the mid-west but it is good times. I read in the Alaskan regs that the limit on abalones is 50 but that the min. size is 3". Do you ever dive for these where you are at?
